Assistant General Counsel, Specialty Care
The Assistant General Counsel, Specialty Care provides legal counsel for all levels of internal staff and serves as the legal lead for both global and US Oncology Franchise teams. This role supports Sanofi's Oncology Franchise by advising on commercial operations, managing product legal support, and overseeing Oncology-related commercial legal matters globally and in the US. The position focuses on strategic and transactional counseling, as well as contracting. Candidates should have experience advising global pharmaceutical companies on marketing, distribution, promotion, scientific exchange, and healthcare professional interactions. This role requires efficient prioritization of multiple requests, delegation as needed, and delivering high-quality service to business partners. Confidence working with senior leaders and independently across Sanofi is essential. This position will offer guidance on complex and sensitive legal and business matters, advising internal colleagues in a way that furthers the company's strategic goals while effectively managing legal and regulatory risks and upholding the company's integrity and reputation. Additionally, the role will coordinate legal support across Oncology to ensure cohesive and consistent legal services across the Oncology franchise. S/he will be expected to provide prompt, strategic, useful and thorough input to internal colleagues and senior management regarding complex and wide-ranging legal matters, particularly in the area of advertising and promotion, fraud and abuse and other applicable healthcare laws, as well as antitrust and litigation matters. Job Duties: Serve as the primary legal contact for the Global & US Oncology therapeutic business area, coordinating legal assistance across all Oncology product related commercial matters. Sit on the Global & US Oncology Leadership Teams, delivering proactive engagement, impact and enterprise support on behalf of legal. Act as legal reviewer for advertising and promotional materials and advising internal groups including commercial, sales, medical affairs, and others. Act as a partner to the business in considering, developing, and executing initiatives relating to the Global & US Oncology therapeutic business area. Work to ensure consistency of advice and counsel provided by other attorneys supporting Global & US Oncology. Provide input into product launch planning and advise on brand and commercial initiatives. Provide legal advice on advertising and promotion strategies and activities. Manage the review and negotiation of certain contracts and amendments relating to the relevant business areas. Work with business colleagues to assist them with adherence to Sanofi's policies, understand legislative developments that may impact our business, and work through direct and indirect management of both internal and external resources. This requires a high degree of organizational skill, autonomy and focus on detail. The selected candidate will also oversee and provide counsel concerning a broad range of legal issues, including, interpretation of FDA and other regulations, including the False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute and competition law in connection with promotional and non-promotional activities, marketing strategies, and interactions with patients and healthcare professionals. The candidate must be flexible enough to manage multiple subject matter issues across diverse areas of the company, taking the initiative to identify appropriate subject matter experts and coordinating overall review. The Assistant General Counsel, Specialty Care operates with limited supervision, and therefore requires a high level of balanced judgment and an ability to independently discern and establish priorities. Agility and willingness to learn about various subject matters (both from a legal and business perspective) are highly valued. Ability to identify potential legal issues (focusing on antitrust matters, potential litigations and promotional matters, FDA/regulatory issues and fraud and abuse) as well as proposed solutions to mitigate risk is required, as is good judgment on when to escalate issues internally. Position to be based in Cambridge, MA (preferred) or potentially Morristown, NJ, consistent with Sanofi's hybrid work model.
