Mechanical Systems Technician

Applications for this position will be accepted through 11:59 p.m. on August 15, 2025. The pay rate for this position is $24.45 per hour. This is an essential services position that is eligible for overtime when preapproved by the supervisor and is eligible for call back pay and shift differential when applicable. This is a covered position under the Colorado Partnership for Quality Jobs & Services Act. Applications will only be accepted through the Fort Lewis College Workday portal. Physical Plant Services supports the educational and public service programs of Fort Lewis College through the delivery of effective operational support, maintenance services and the management of the College's facilities. The services are coordinated through the Service Center and are accomplished by Custodial Services, Electrical and Electronic Systems Maintenance, Grounds and Equipment Maintenance, Mechanical Systems Maintenance, and Structural Maintenance. The Project Management work unit plans projects and provides design and construction management services to support the facilities improvement and construction program. The Mechanical Systems Maintenance work unit is responsible for the maintenance, repair, improvement, and installation of plumbing, heating, refrigeration, and ventilation systems and equipment at Fort Lewis College. The primary purpose of this work unit is to provide services and ideas that will create the best possible environment for teaching and learning at Fort Lewis College. This position is at the sub journeyman level and exists to provide support and maintenance on, but not limited to the following: 1. Preventive maintenance program 2. Supply Fans 3. Return Fans 4. Exhaust Fans 5. Furnaces 6. Motors 7. V Belts 8. Kitchen equipment 9. Heating Systems 10. Cooling Systems 11. Assist Higher Level Technicians when needed. Minimum Qualifications

Experience Only: Two (2) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position OR Education and Experience: A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to two (2) years *Please make the work experience listed within your job application clearly demonstrated your skills related to the job duties for this position. Job Duties

Mechanical Systems Preventative Maintenance Program 75% Responds to preventative maintenance work orders. Performs routine, general and preventive maintenance on all types of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and kitchen equipment. Performs general and preventive maintenance on supply fans. Changes filters, cleans equipment, checks and adjusts and replaces v-belts. Inspects and lubricates fan bearings and checks for abnormal wear. Lubricates and does minor repairs to motors to include changing bearings. Checks damper motors, damper operation and linkages. Checks heating and cooling coil valves for proper operation. Performs general and preventive maintenance on exhaust and return fans. Cleans equipment, checks and adjusts and replaces v-belts. Inspects and lubricates fan bearings and checks for abnormal wear. Lubricates and does minor repairs to motors to include changing bearings. Checks damper motors, damper operation and linkages. Performs general and preventive maintenance on furnaces. changes filters, cleans equipment, checks and adjusts and replaces v-belts. Inspects and lubricates fan bearings and checks for abnormal wear. Lubricates and does minor repairs to motors to include changing bearings. Checks damper motors, damper operation and damper linkages. Checks for proper gas valve, thermostat and controls operations. Performs general and preventive maintenance on cabinet heaters, unit heaters, fan coil units, and VAV's. Changes filters, cleans equipment, checks and adjusts and replaces v-belts. Inspects and lubricates fan bearings and checks for abnormal wear. Lubricates and does minor repairs to motors to include changing bearings. Checks damper motors, damper operation and linkages. Checks for proper gas valve, thermostat and controls operation on gas fired heaters. Performs general and preventive maintenance on kitchen equipment. Checks dish belt operation and lubricates motor bearings. Checks and cleans belt drive pulleys. Inspects belt and tray link condition. Adjusts belt tension. Changes scrapping table garbage disposal cutter blocks. Cleans refrigeration coils and straightens fins on walk in evaporative coolers. Maintains the kitchen pulper system, all dish machines, conveyors, steamers, ice machines, grills, ovens, kettles, etc. Maintains fan powered boxes. Lubricates motors. Checks fan bearings and shaft for wear. Inspects damper condition, damper operation, linkages, and motors. Checks heating valves for proper operation Maintains heat recovery units. Lubricates motors. Change filters, clean equipment, checks fan bearings and shaft for wear. Inspects damper condition, damper operation, linkages, and motors. Checks heating valves for proper operation Maintains air compressors for pneumatic controls. Checks oil level, changes oil, adjusts and replaces v-belts. Inspects belt safety guards. Checks relief valve and pressure switch operation. Checks air dryer operation and clean coils. Assisting Journeyman Level Personnel 10% Assists journeyman level personnel in installing, repairing and maintaining all of the mechanical systems. This includes work on boilers, chillers, kitchen equipment, sewer and water systems, utilities, air handlers. Aids in maintaining water feed valves, relief valves, and backflow preventers. Helps to install or replace pumps, motors, couplers, motor mounts and seals. Supports rebuilding or replacing zone valves or modulating valves. Provides assistance installing or maintaining refrigeration and HVAC equipment.
