Wastewater Operator
Mustang Special Utility District ("Mustang") is a local governmental entity providing water and water reclamation utility service in Denton, Collin, and Grayson Counties of North Texas. We are the largest Special Utility District in Texas and in one of the fastest-growing areas of the country. Comprising over 38,000 connections over 220 sq. miles. Our motto is Second to None! Providing Life's Most Precious Resource. We're looking for a key person to join our team as a Wastewater Operator. The WWTP Operator at Mustang Special Utility District plays a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of the wastewater treatment plant. This position involves monitoring and maintaining the treatment process, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and performing regular maintenance on plant equipment. The WWTP Operator is responsible for collecting and analyzing data, managing chemical dosing, and conducting routine inspections to ensure the plant operates efficiently and produces high-quality effluent. The WWTP Operator helps the district provide safe and reliable water services by supporting the plant's operational integrity and regulatory compliance. Essential Functions: Plant Operations: Manage treatment operations, ensuring optimal process efficiency and proper facility monitoring. This includes observing operations, collecting and testing samples, and reading instrumentation (SCADA). Conduct basic maintenance and repairs on plant equipment, perform constant hourly equipment inspections, and identify issues that need attention.
Data Collection and Analysis: Gather data from flow meters, lab equipment, and other monitoring devices. Analyze the data to monitor plant performance and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Record statistical data concerning plant operations, chart lab test results for trend analysis, and maintain accurate analyses and test results records.
Chemical Management: Control chemical dosing processes, such as chlorine dosing, to ensure proper disinfection of plant effluent. Calculate chemical feed dosages and ensure the calibration of all testing equipment, ordering testing supplies as needed.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with TCEQ rules and regulations, as well as prepare and submit necessary reports. Maintain thorough logs and records of facility operations and maintenance, using both written and electronic forms to support regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.
Safety and Security: Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols, identifying and mitigating safety hazards. Participate in safety meetings and assist in implementing safety programs. Monitor the facility for security breaches and alert appropriate law enforcement agencies or supervisors as necessary.
Customer Interaction and Support: Respond to inquiries regarding facility operations and address odor complaints in a timely and effective manner. Communicate effectively via phone, text, email, or radio, providing clear updates and instructions.
General Maintenance and Housekeeping: Perform janitorial functions and yard maintenance to ensure the facility is clean and well-maintained. Oversee the maintenance of facility grounds, coordinating with outside contractors as needed.
Qualifications: Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience: Over three years of experience in wastewater treatment operations. Higher-level certifications in wastewater treatment are preferred.
Certifications: Class "D" wastewater license within 6 months.
Class "C" wastewater license before the "D" license expires.

Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy in compliance documentation, maintenance records, and operational procedures.

Regulatory Knowledge: Thorough understanding of TCEQ regulations and environmental standards related to wastewater treatment.
Technical Expertise: Proficiency in operating and maintaining wastewater treatment systems, including activated sludge processes, solids treatment, and MBR systems.
Licensing: Obtain and maintain a Class "C" Wastewater Operator License issued by the TCEQ within three years of employment.
Continuous Learning: Participate in ongoing training programs to stay current with industry best practices and regulatory changes. Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Environment/Working Conditions: Indoor and Outdoor Work: Works indoors and outdoors in office settings for field inspections. Requires adaptability to various environmental conditions.

Safety Gear: Consistently wears protective gear such as safety shoes, gloves, and hard hats to ensure safety during fieldwork.
Flexible Hours: May need to work outside regular office hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends, to meet regulatory deadlines or respond to emergencies.
Conditions Of Employment: Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License before employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license within 30 days of hire per state law).
