Financial Aid Associate

Under general supervision, the Financial Aid Associate will provide financial aid guidance and assistance to students and parents in obtaining federal, state, institutional, and private funding for college expenses. Responsible for training and supervising Financial Aid Coordinators and/or student employees. Duties & Responsibilities Meet with and counsel students and parents in obtaining various sources of financial assistance funds. Provide information about available programs, procedures, and eligibility requirements. Research and respond to inquiries, problems, and issues that may arise from students, parents, UIC community, and partners. Monitors and remains current with available federal, state, and institutional programs and the specific eligibility and application requirements for each. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional aid rules and regulations. Assists and keep current the development of policies and procedures affecting financial aid programs processes throughout the year. Participate and present financial aid workshops, presentations, and orientations for students, parents, and campus partners. Monitors financial aid awards and reports daily; analyze data, identify problems, support processing institutional scholarships, and recommend solutions based on established best practice. Responsible for planning, assigning, and reviewing work to staff ensuring group objectives are met. Hire, train, develop and manage staff meeting area goal set by Director. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in business, communications, humanities, social sciences, or a closely related field to the position. One (1) year (12 months) of professional experience working in student services, financial aid/loans or a closely related field within higher education or a related agency. NOTE: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of, and compliance with, Federal and State aid, and experience with institutional aid and other rules that relate to this position. Supervisory or leadership experience. Commitment to providing good customer service. Education and experience should reflect the responsibilities for financial aid or athletic compliance administration in a large and highly complex environment of financial aid programs and services to a diverse student body.
