The Position:

The principal tasks of the School-Based Social Worker is to help students and families make the best use of available opportunities and resources and to fully develop each student's individual potential. The School-Based Social Worker brings to the educational process an understanding of the psychosocial development of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences as they interact with the educational process. The School-Based Social Worker will work with those problems in a child's living situation that affect the child's adjustment in school, such as the home, school, and general community. This position will mobilize family, school, and community resources to enable the child to learn as effectively as possible in their educational program. The School-Based Social Worker is supervised by the School Services Program Manager/Supervisor.

Sample Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide individual, group, and family counseling, crisis intervention, and positive behavioral strategies to support student success. Partner with parents to improve school adjustment, reduce family stress, provide parenting/health education, and connect to community resources. Deliver Enhanced Care Management services, including outreach, assessment, care planning, coordination, health promotion, transitional care, family supports, and referrals to social services. Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop whole-person care plans addressing physical, mental, behavioral, and social needs. Collaborate with school staff, participate in case conferences, assist with behavior management, and conduct trainings/presentations. Serve as a liaison between schools and community resources to meet student needs. Identify and report child abuse/neglect, utilize trauma-informed practices, and maintain accurate documentation. Lead Clinician Duties (if applicable):

Manage and prioritize referrals, respond to urgent mental health requests, coordinate crisis responses, and oversee referral tracking. Participate in clinical supervision, consultations, and professional development. Conduct intakes, assessments, and treatment planning; evaluate client progress and program effectiveness. Maintain program compliance, accurate records, and required service activity levels. Build and maintain community partnerships; attend outreach events as needed. Contribute to agency initiatives, uphold FSA policies, promote inclusivity, and model professional communication and behavior. Perform other duties as assigned. Employment Qualifications and Standards: Master's level clinical program at an accredited university or Master's degree in social work, counseling or related fields and an ASW, AMFT, APCC, LCSW, LPCC, or MFT required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred. Experience in School Social Work, Clinical Case Management or Case Management preferred. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including MS Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook. Ability to learn and apply knowledge and skills to several types of software. Valid automobile insurance and California Driver's License. Reliable transportation to travel throughout Santa Barbara County. Must have a working knowledge of trauma-informed care. Excellent written and communication skills required. Excellent clinical skills and understanding of therapeutic interventions. Maintain a professional attitude and a team player by working collaboratively and respectfully with other FSA staff members. Act with discernment and maintain confidentiality. This is not limited to client records and databases but also verbal and written communication.

Classification, Hours and Pay Rate:

This non-exempt position may be full-time or part-time, with benefits offered on a full or pro-rated basis. Benefits include a 403(b) retirement plan, flexible spending accounts, and generous holiday and sick leave. Compensation ranges from $28 to $39 per hour, based on licensure, education, and experience.
