Manual Machinist
We are seeking a skilled Industrial Manual Machinist in Houston, TX who can expertly operate manual machine tools to produce or recondition large-scale precision engine components. A critical requirement for this role is a deep understanding ofand ability to interpretanalog measurement tools such as micrometers and depth gauges, among others. Apply now! Manual Machinist Responsibilities: Set up and operate manual machine tools (e.g., lathes, mills, grinders) to machine engine parts to tight tolerances Interpret detailed blueprints, sketches, or sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup requirements Measure parts using analog micrometers, depth gauges, calipers, dial indicators, and related manual gauging instruments to ensure adherence to specifications Perform in-process inspections, identify discrepancies, and make necessary adjustments Prepare, mark, and measure components as guides for machining sequences Follow safety protocols, comply with quality standards, maintain work area organization, and support continuous improvement initiatives Requirements for Manual Machinist: Proven experience as a manual machinist in an industrial or engine rebuild environment Highly proficient in using analog measuring tools (micrometers, depth gauges, calipers, dial indicators, etc.) Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills, including familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) Demonstrated ability to set up and adjust manual machining equipment for precision machining tasks Familiarity with the properties and machining characteristics of ferrous and non-ferrous materials commonly used in engine components Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate work Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry) for calculating material removal and dimensions Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors Capability to stand for extended periods Willingness to adapt to shifting priorities and work extended hours when necessary Prior experience in remanufacturing or machining engine parts like cylinder heads, blocks, crankshafts, rods, or valves in an industrial engine refurbishment/repair setting preferred Knowledge of heavy-duty engine industry standards and materials preferred Ability to contribute to process optimization and mentor junior machinists IND999 QPS Employment Group is a full-service staffing firm comprised of dedicated and passionate people with over 50 offices throughout the United States.
