Supervisor Of Mechanics (Mechanical Equipment) I
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system's 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City. The Bureau of Water Supply (BWS) seeks to hire a Supervisor of Mechanics (Mechanical Equipment) I for a position in the Fleet Services Division, Management Services and Budget (MS&B) Directorate located in Shokan, New York. Under general supervision, the Supervisor of Mechanics Level 1 will work to ensure all Bureau of Water Supply and Bureau of Police and Security vehicles and equipment are properly maintained. Specific duties include: - Directing mechanics in the repair and maintenance of light/heavy-duty vehicles, and equipment. - Reporting to their supervisor and senior management on daily activities and issues with critical vehicles, and procurement. - Possessing extensive mechanical knowledge of equipment such as AEBI, New Holland, Kubota tractors, and construction equipment. - Overseeing staff in the fleet garage, ensuring all automotive work is properly diagnosed and repaired in a safe and timely manner. - Ensuring all work orders are open and closed, and labor is entered into various Fleet databases. - Being familiar with multiple parts vendors throughout the watershed, and non-requirement contract vendors to properly account for hundreds of deliveries/pickups of auto parts throughout the fiscal year. - Being responsible for scheduling all preventive maintenance, motor vehicle inspections and seasonal work for snow plowing, mowing, and small boat equipment. - Ensuring the fleet garage is stocked with necessary parts, tools, and equipment so work can be properly performed by auto mechanics. - This includes ensuring all equipment such as motor vehicle lifts, tire mounting and balancing machines are inspected monthly, and are in good working order. - Ensuring the garage is tidy, has in-depth knowledge and complies with all applicable environmental health and safety regulations. - Possessing excellent professional and customer service qualities to carry out duties. Please note that even though the posting lists Shokan as the primary location, the Supervisor of Mechanics Level 1 will be required to report and supervise at several locations throughout the watershed including Downsville, Grahamsville, Kingston, Cross River, New York. License Requirements: Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment. For appointment to certain positions a Class B Commercial Driver License or a Class A Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York with no restrictions may be required. The Class B or Class A Commercial Driver License with no restrictions must be maintained for the duration of employment. Some of the physical activities performed by Supervisors of Mechanics (Mechanical Equipment) and environmental conditions experienced are walking to and from buildings, walking around garage floors, climbing and descending ladders or stairs, climbing around and over various objects, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, communicating orally, working in confined areas that may be noisy, dusty or dirty. Special Working Conditions: Supervisors of Mechanics (Mechanical Equipment) may be required to work various shifts including nights, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Preferred Skills: - A Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York with no restrictions. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment. - Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and Project - Ability to navigate CityTime; a timekeeping application - Thorough knowledge and understanding of automotive repair on various makes and models of vehicles and equipment - Ability to work with and understand M5 (FleetFocus), a computer program that catalogues work and time on a daily basis - An understanding of CRM for procurement processing - Knowledge of NYC budget and procurement rules - Ability to interpret, follow, and enforce Health and Safety working conditions - Ability to wear appropriate PPE - Ability to perform physically taxing work - Ability to follow instructions - Ability to research operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals to identify repair parts Hours/Shift: 40 Hours per week / May be required to work various shifts including nights, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
