Role Profile

As a key member of the Infrastructure Engineering team you will be responsible for advancing the development, performance, and reliability of the VAX-VMS systems within ADM. This could be through the creation of strategies, roadmaps, and processes, and supporting their introduction. You will also be providing subject matter expert (SME) level support to the Operations teams and wider Engineering and Architecture teams. The role will suit an individual who enjoys working collaboratively with both technical and business teams to create holistic solutions incorporating a wide range of systems and technologies, and who is able to bring creativity to the solutioning process. You will work closely with other Engineers and Architects who have specialized skills while cross-training within ADM's core technologies. Both they and you, will be constantly learning from each other.

Role Responsibilities Create innovative VAX-VMS engineering solutions and designs within defined standards, or proposing new standards when required, ensuring that designs work holistically within larger solutions. In close collaboration with cross functional architecture teams, develop strategies and roadmaps which support the continuous improvement of the VAX-VMS platforms. Work closely with the other Tech Ops teams to identify, test, and implement monitoring and automation tools across the VAX-VMS estate. Assist in planning and executing migration strategies from VAX-VMS systems to modern platforms. Provide technical input for risk assessments and business continuity planning. Maintain a good awareness of Operations and Project activities through regular communication with operations & project leads and by attending update meetings. Undertake requirements analysis of incoming requests ensuring deliverables are clearly understood and agreed with stakeholders. Proactively seek out opportunities for continuous improvement of systems and processes and propose improvement activities. Liaise with 3rd. party vendors when appropriate to create new solutions and continuous improvement proposals. Collaborate with Architects to propose, review and implement new standards and technologies. Carry out continuous personal development, ensuring technical skills are kept up to date and non-technical skills are gained and improved. Develop a base cross functional technical knowledge allowing holistic thinking during design processes. Carry out technical reviews of change requests and designs created by other teams. Support the operations teams, as required, in order to Maintain and support VAX-VMS systems and operating system. Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure high availability. Apply patches, upgrades, and configuration changes as needed. Collaborate with application teams to ensure legacy applications function correctly. Implement and maintain security controls in line with organizational policies. Ensure compliance with data retention, audit, and regulatory requirements.

Role Requirements Essential

7+ years proven experience working with VAX-VMS systems

Extensive experience of with OpenVMS, VMS, CLI, DCL Scripting) Deep expertise in legacy networking protocols, integration with storage and backup systems

A broad general knowledge and understanding of Infrastructure & Networking systems Experience of holistic infrastructure engineering solutions comprising multiple elements including

On premise private cloud and multiple public cloud environments Incorporating cloud and middleware capabilities Mainframe platforms

Experience of creating technology roadmaps based on strategy inputs Experience of creating low level implementation designs based on high level architecture Ability to carry out requirements analysis and create detailed solution designs Experience in providing engineering expertise to Operations teams in support of incident and request resolution Excited about this role but don't think you meet every requirement listed? Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. If hired, employees will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors. The pay range for this position is expected to be between: $70,400.00 - $130,500.00 Benefits and Perks
