Senior Evaluator, Radiological Protection
The senior evaluator in Radiological Protection & Chemistry leads monitoring, evaluation, and assistance activities for nuclear power stations in radiological protection and chemistry, interacting with utility personnel, INPO/WANO management, and industry professional groups. Travels independently or as part of a team to domestic and international commercial nuclear stations to observe and evaluate station radiological protection and chemistry performance. Essential Functions: Act as a lead Radiological Protection evaluator on WANO peer reviews as well as monitoring and assistance visits Recognize gaps to excellence in Radiological Protection and industrial safety Discern significance, scope, and causes of plant problems and strengths Represent INPO on all issues related to radiological protection, including industry meetings and during the establishment of/or changes to industry standards Work with the industry to improve radiological protection performance Participate in the development of industry communications Mentor new employees through the radiological protection and chemistry qualification process Other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Advanced knowledge of current industry PWR and BWR radiological safety fundamentals, standards and operating practices Advanced knowledge of training, qualification, and work management processes associated with Radiological Protection Advanced knowledge of error reduction fundamentals as related to station chemistry and program engineering personnel Advanced knowledge and understanding of the principles, techniques, and practices associated with: Plant radiological safety related processes and activities, including plant and personnel radiation and contamination monitoring, control of access to radiologically posted areas, and control of radioactive material Advanced knowledge of industry regulations, standards, and state-of-the-art practices in radiological protection Advanced knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices associated with: Measurement, detection, and control of radiation and radioactive materials, including instrumentation and dosimetry commonly used in the industry Controls for access to radiologically significant areas Cumulative and individual dose reduction techniques, including minimizing internal and external dose, ALARA planning and source reduction for BWRs and PWRs Knowledge of industry safety fundamentals Knowledge of work management processes and maintenance work practices typically observed during outages Education, Licenses, and Certifications: Required High School Diploma or GED Preferred Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant specialty area Certified Health Physicist Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) certification Experience Required Five or more years of experience in chemistry/chemical engineering, radiological protection, or health physics Three years of experience in a nuclear technical field Preferred Five years nuclear plant or similar experience Five years of supervisory experience (preferably in RP or chemistry) with at least some experience as a second-line supervisor Additional Requirements Work Context Must work prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer Must work under minimal supervision Must be able to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and crawl Must be able to lift 25 pounds Must have a US state or territory issued Real ID compliant driver's license or identification card Behaviors and Assessments/Additional Requirements All INPO employees are expected to abide by behavioral expectations as outlined in INPO's Core Values, Team Effectiveness Attributes, and Leadership Effectiveness Attributes Employment is dependent upon successfully completing a pre-employment background check and drug and alcohol test This position may require obtaining unescorted access status This position requires direct or indirect access to certain export-controlled technology, for which INPO may be required to obtain an export license in accordance with applicable U.S. export control laws and regulations.
