JOB SUMMARY: Oversee the daily operations of the medical coding department, ensuring accurate and compliant assignment of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-PCS and DRG codes. This role is responsible for staff management, workflow optimization, compliance with payer regulations and collaboration with clinical and billing departments to support clean claim submission and optimal reimbursement.QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION: Current credential of CPC, CCS or related coding professional credential required. Minimum 3-5 years of medical coding experience. At least 1-2 years in a leadership or supervisory role. Expert knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-PCS. Familiarity with MS-DRG. Strong understanding of coding compliance, payer policies and regulatory guidelines. Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid regulations is required. Excellent communication, leadership and analytical skills. Proficiency in the use of various computer systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Medent and Trubridge is a plus. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:•Supervise and support coding team including coders and coding educator. •Ensure accurate and timely coding of inpatient, outpatient and professional services based on medical record documentation•Monitor productivity and quality metrics and implement performance improvement plans as needed. Ensure that all staff are working as efficiently, accurately and productively as possible.•Stay current with coding guidelines (ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-PCS) and payer-specific requirements.•Collaborate with the Auditor and Educator to provide education and training to coding staff on updates, compliance issues and audit findings.•Assist in resolving denials and coding-related billing issues•Develop and maintain workflows and procedures related to coding operations.•Prepare reports for leadership on coding trends and compliance risks•Make decisions and take actions essential to the daily operation of the Coding Team. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct supervision of Coding Team Members and Coding Educator.•Functions as a coach and mentor to the staff for whom this position is responsible.•Participates in and/or supports the employment process for department staff. •Provides and/or oversees the training of newly appointed staff members (to the department). •Develops and/or maintains on-going training programs/initiatives to enhance skills, knowledge and productivity of existing employees•Participate in training sessions as required and/or deemed necessary.•Provides leadership and direction to the staff for whom you are responsible to maintain a work environment that promotes the creative development of ideas and allows employees to meet and/or exceed expectations and established standards of performance.LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to communicate effectively with staff, peers, physicians and the public. Ability to speak and understand English fluently. The ability to train/teach adults.
