Our client is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Operator, Service Equipment to join their team. This role is essential to maintaining the city's water and sewer infrastructure while also supporting other municipal maintenance projects. The Operator, Service Equipment is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining water mains, sewer systems, booster pump stations, drainage systems, and related infrastructure. This position also involves operating a variety of heavy and light equipment, such as dump trucks, mowers, and service trucks, as well as performing tasks that ensure safe and reliable services for residents.
Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair booster pump stations, meters, drainage systems, and wastewater systems to ensure proper function.
  • Keep accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Identify the location of utility lines before excavation and coordinate with utility companies as needed.
  • Notify residents and businesses of service interruptions and restoration timelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper function of tools and equipment before and after use.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and report needed repairs to supervisors.
  • Assist in a variety of maintenance and construction projects, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, pipe repair, laying water mains, and backfilling.
  • Install fire hydrants, shut off damaged water mains, and flush lines as necessary.
  • Follow all safety and security standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1-3 months of related experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Class B CDL or ability to obtain within 18 months.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and technical manuals, write reports, and communicate effectively.
  • Strong mathematical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions and potentially hazardous environments.
  • Ability to work in loud, high, or confined spaces.
