Sr Direct Endorsement Residential Underwriter
The Sr Direct Endorsement Residential Underwriter is responsible to perform residential loan underwriting activities related to loan requests with the goal of achieving the optimal outcome for Northwest and the customer. Essential functions include:
- Communicating with customers, realtors, title companies, attorneys, and settlement agents to schedule closings, respond to inquiries, resolve issues, and obtain any documentation required to complete the loan file
- Interacting with Mortgage Loan Originators, Loan Production Assistants, and other team members on a daily basis to resolve questions/issues, and ensure timely underwriting of loan files
- Managing a pipeline of working loan files to ensure loans are underwritten in a timely manner
- Maintaining current knowledge of mortgage loan programs, procedures, and guidelines
- Using Northwest's loan origination systems and agency automated underwriting systems to underwrite residential mortgage loans
- Reviewing and analyzing documentation submitted and used in underwriting decisions for accuracy and completeness
- Ensuring data relating to the underwriting of loans in accurate and complete in the loan origination system
- Reviewing and analyzing appraisal reports and title commitments to verify sufficient collateral and proper lien position to secure loans
- Maintaining loan approval authority for all residential mortgage loan products offered by Northwest (conventional, portfolio, FHA, VA, USDA)
- Checking accuracy of all calculations
- Recommending improvements to procedures
- Managing personal workload/workflow
- Meeting turnaround/production goals
- Ensuring compliance with Northwest's policies and procedures, and Federal/State regulations
- Navigating Microsoft Office Software, computer applications, and software specific to the department in order to maximize technology tools and gain efficiency
- Working as part of a team
- Working with on-site equipment
- Ensuring adherence to appropriate investor guidelines and industry standards
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- 3 - 5 years experience as DE Underwriter preferred
- 5 - 6 years experience underwriting conventional loans, 3 years' experience underwriting VA and USDA Rural Housing Loans preferred
- Working knowledge of residential mortgage loan products
- Working knowledge of Ellie Mae - Encompass loan origination software, Freddie Mac - Loan Product Advisor, USDA - Guaranteed Underwriting System (GUS), FHA Connection preferred
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills with the ability to define and solve problems, establish facts and make well-reasoned decisions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work closely with other team members is needed
- Proficient organizational and multi-tasking skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness a plus
- The ability to work independently in a fast-paced high production environment under time constraints and to work collaboratively in a team environment managing multiple deadlines and priorities preferred
