The role you'll contribute: Under supervision, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs a variety of technical procedures in the utilization of radio nuclides for the diagnosis and treatment of disease in humans. The role involves independently performing Radiographic Imaging procedures, handling, preparing, calculating dosage, administering radionuclides and interventional medications under the direction of an authorized user such as a radiologist or cardiologist. This position assumes a variety of responsibilities that will require independent judgment, ingenuity, initiative, and the ability to adapt to adverse situations. The technologist is authorized and commits to delivering quality care to patients ranging from pediatric to geriatric, ensuring patient safety and adhering to safety standards that keep radiation exposure as low as reasonably achievable. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is also responsible for maintaining records in accordance with departmental and state requirements, assisting the radiation safety officer as needed, and responsible for patient transportation to the imaging room. The position entails positioning patients appropriately to obtain quality diagnostic images for interpretation via PACS system by the technologist and assisting Radiologists or other clinical staff during procedures. Additionally, the role includes performing clerical duties, assisting in the radiology department as needed, performing basic patient care within scope of practice and to departmental standards, and possibly marketing Nuclear Medicine/PET-CT to physician referrers. The technologist is responsible for adhering to the Corporate Compliance plan, the rules and regulations of all local, state, and federal agencies, and the standards of all accrediting bodies. The position contributes significantly to the mission and goals of the department by providing professional quality Nuclear Medicine imaging services in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner, acting as a clinical resource to unit personnel, and assuring current standards of practice for the unit. This role actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

The value you'll bring to the team: Identifies patients by using approved guidelines to confirm patient/exam accuracy before continuing with patient examination. Reviews and ensures physician request meets clinically valid exam indicator requirements. Prepares appropriate radionuclide for procedure, explains procedure to patient, and aseptically administers radionuclide using universal BSI principles. Ensuring that equipment has met all quality control requirements and working with a minimum of supervision, performs patient examination utilizing age-specific care techniques in a safe and responsible manner, and evaluates image quality to insure good technical and diagnostic detail. Presents completed exam and any patient historical data to radiologist/cardiologist for review. Assists with image manipulation or additional imaging as requested. Assists patient with dressing, answering any questions the patient may have regarding their exam and expectations of results, and releases patient with directions to exit the hospital if needed. Performs a wide range of Nuclear Medicine procedures demonstrating proficiency with camera acquisition and computer processing in assigned area. Learns and adapts to new technology and helps develop the knowledge and competency of coworkers and students. Maintains room in ready status by keeping room neat, supplies well stocked and equipment prepared for next patient. Initiates and documents work order requests for any equipment that is not functioning properly.

Qualifications: The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:

  • Associate Required
  • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) Required
  • Nuclear Medicine Technology (ARRT-N) Required or Nuclear Medicine Technology Cert Board (NMTCB) Required
  • Radiographer Applicable State License Requirement
