This position is located in Columbus, Nebraska.
This role is responsible for managing complex tax reporting and compliance tasks; ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local tax regulations; and providing guidance on individual, corporate, partnership, estate, and other tax planning. Strong analytical skills, deep knowledge of tax laws, and a proactive approach to identify tax-saving opportunities at both the corporate and individual levels while demonstrating excellent communication skills are part of this role.
Summary

  • Assist in preparing quarterly and year-end financial statements for taxes and bank reporting.
  • Prepare and file Nebraska and Kansas corporate and owner tax returns, assuring compliance with federal, state and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Review returns prepared by tax accountants for accuracy. Work with colleagues to correct errors and ensure accuracy prior to filing the returns and file returns on time. Ensure that tax-saving opportunities are realized to the fullest.
  • Organize and maintain accurate records of tax returns, client information, and tax-related documents.
  • Research, execute, and analyze tax laws, regulations, grants, and credits to identify potential tax deductions and strategies that will minimize tax burden and optimize profits.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to conduct tax planning for individual, corporate, partnership, estate planning, and other tax planning as applicable to minimize tax burden.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to provide professional guidance on the tax implications and the maintenance of USDA, NRCS, and other federal/state farm grants.
  • Continuously monitor changes in tax laws, regulations, and procedures to ensure compliance and provide accurate guidance on how to proceed to implement said changes.
  • Conduct basic and complex tax research to benefit short and long term financial decisions.
  • Complete yearly value assessments and utilize the assessments in company fiscal planning to aid in company wide fiscal decisions.
  • Be familiar with Section 179, depreciation rules for farm equipment, and Schedule F, and farming accounting practices.
  • Be familiar with Nebraska and Kansas sales tax exemptions in agriculture, both crop and livestock applications.
  • Respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies including compiling statements and documents to be prepared to respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies.
  • Assist in Nebraska and Kansas tax audits and respond to inquiries from regulatory bodies in a timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with tax authorities and external tax advisors.
  • Prepare for tax audits by ensuring accurate record-keeping and compliance with tax laws.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of related experience.
  • CPA license required.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication to explain tax issues, provide advice, and address concerns.
  • Ability to exercise judgement and/or discretion in making independent decisions.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace while handling confidential and sensitive information with high degree of accuracy.
  • Be proficient in using tax and accounting software to streamline work processes and enhance efficiency.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to understand and proactively manage both internal and external customer needs.
  • Champion of process improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational skills must be detail oriented with the ability to multi-task.
  • Certification as a NetSuite user preferred (certification can be provided by Sandy Pine).
  • Proficiency with current MS Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.) and other financial systems.
  • Knowledge of NetSuite and QuickBooks a plus!
  • Willingness to train and mentor team members.
  • Willingness to take on additional duties as assigned.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus but not required.
