Chaminade College Preparatory is seeking an Accountant. The accountant position is responsible for performing basic accounting and administrative functions, reporting to the Accounting and Financial Reporting Manager for the business office of a school. The position will compile revenue and expense transactions, perform account reconciliations, and other general accounting tasks. The position requires utilization of accounting and third-party transaction software daily.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Processes bank deposits.
  • Prepares journal entries.
  • Reconciles general ledger accounts and resolves discrepancies.
  • Performs bank and investment account reconciliations.
  • Assists with tuition revenue accounting and related balance sheet accounts, such as prepaid and deferred revenue.
  • Performs transaction research and special projects as needed.
  • Performs fixed asset reporting and tracking.
  • Compiles merchant account receivable transactions from various school revenue sources.
  • Prepares and records assets, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information from various systems and sources.
  • Assists Accounting and Financial Reporting Manager with the preparation of monthly financial statements for subsequent management review.
  • Assists with the preparation of the annual audit, including schedules and providing information for auditors.
  • Follows all policies and procedures, particularly regarding internal financial controls.
  • Maintains files, document retention, and filing procedures as appropriate.
  • Supports the philosophy, principles, and characteristics of Marianist Education; assures quality of service to students, parents, faculty members, organization staff, outside organizations, and communities.
  • Supports policies and procedures of Chaminade College Preparatory.
  • Assists in processing purchase orders and weekly check run as needed.
  • Supports all Business Office operations or other assigned duties as needed.
  • Assists with answering phones and scheduling meetings for department.
  • Assists with compilation of taxable sales tax transactions.
  • Runs monthly expense clearing account transactions and balance reports for submission to program administrator, coordinates payments with Accounts Payable.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • 1-3 years of accounting experience preferred (internships count toward experience).
  • Experience with operational-driven organizations with high transaction volume is a plus.
  • Experience with fund accounting is a plus.
Required Skills & Knowledge
  • Basic experience with corporate accounting software, including Fixed Assets, General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, and Revenue platforms.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel & Office.
  • Excellent verbal communication, administrative and customer service skills required.
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills.

Salary and Benefits
This is a full-time, 12 month per year, salaried/exempt from overtime position. The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience.
