This job supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by performing bone Densitometry Scans only within the scope of the categories in which the permit to practice is issued (chest, spine, extremities, shoulder, pediatric).
Job Duties:
- Utilizes EPIC and imaging systems within the department to complete tasks.
- Identifies each patient and reviews each patient's requisition for consistency of examination ordered with clinical diagnosis.
- Prepares and orders images and obtains previous images by use of the PACS system.
- Identifies anatomical orientation and ensures proper patient identification on all images.
- Reviews each exam for technical accuracy.
- Initiates applicable incident reports by the end of the shift and reports incomplete and incorrect examinations to ensure the proper patient charge and continuity of patient care.
- Rooms and prepares patient for examination, as applicable.
- Documents patient's history and medical history accurately.
- Completes steps necessary to acquire previous images and reports when patents have outside imaging.
- Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Women's Center policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated competence with Bone Densitometry exams.
- Ability to perform exams completed in Dexa Rooms.
Professional Experience:
- General diagnostic x-ray experience preferred.
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program required.
Licensure, Certification, Registration:
- Iowa Permit to Practice Radiography required.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support, in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
- Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.
