POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Residential Counselor is responsible for delivering excellent services which promote the ability of residents to participate in appropriate activities which contribute to the development and utilization of skills necessary for independent living and maintaining a safe environment. The focus of transitional housing services is to support homeless families as they acquire the tools needed to gain sustainable permanent housing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
? Support Program Manager with an initial assessment, intervention, planning, and re-evaluation of residents' needs based on behaviors
? Assist with the orientation of residents and/or volunteers. Provides guidance and assistance to by being observant and attentive to both positive and negative behavior and reporting activities to supervisor (as needed).
? Instructs, assists, and monitors residents in accordance with rehabilitation, intervention, and transitional plans
? Assists in providing a safe, supporting, home environment according to established policies and procedures
? Instruct, supervise and participate in performing household tasks with residents such as cleaning, meal preparation, household budget planning, grocery shopping, etc.
? Assist residents in the development of daily living skills by identifying and meeting social, environmental, and healthcare needs
? Plan, coordinate, and participate in residential social activities
? Transport residents to and from home, social activities, appointments, and community locations as required
? Perform crisis intervention, emergency counseling, and assistance; notify supervisor or an on-call person of clinical crisis and other emergencies in accordance with company policy
? Communicate and document activities and behaviors of residents in reports and records as assigned
? Inspect building in accordance with policies to ensure safety and home rule compliance
? Satisfactory completion of all client-related assessments, notes, and reports
? Engage in life skills interventions with residents, while maintaining appropriate boundaries
? Ensure resident safety and collaborate with coworkers to maintain an environment that is positive, respectful, clean, and supportive

? Communicate the Y mission and objectives to the community.
? Assist in all other areas as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Experience
Experience in working with at-risk youth and/or homeless populations
Strong communication and organizational skills required
Experience providing positive behavior modification techniques and
modeling effective de-escalation and problem-solving skills
Basic computer skills and experience with standard business software
Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, overnight, and holidays
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS, AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physically able to successfully complete required job functions, including use of hands, arms, and fingers, able to talk and hear, use a computer, sit and stand, move/lift up to 50 pounds, and enter all Y in Central Maryland environments.
