About the Role
This role is responsible for both organizing, reconciling, and recording past financial transactions that have not been previously accounted for in real-time and doing daily, monthly, or quarterly bookkeeping for clients. The goal is to ensure a client's financial records are accurate and up to date for tax filing, audits, and/or management decision-making.

This role isn't ideal for someone who prefers solo work, dislikes managing people, struggles with multitasking, resists change or technology, needs frequent direction, or wants a narrow accounting focus. It requires flexibility, leadership, and comfort with a fast-paced, client-facing environment.

The right person is client-focused, detail-oriented, tech-savvy (especially with QuickBooks and Excel), and thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. In this role, you should be comfortable working independently, mentoring others, and acting as a strategic advisor to small business clients. Leadership experience and a strong foundation in accounting operations are key.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Technical
Definition: your specialized knowledge & expertise associated with the work you perform for/with clients (note: clients may be internal to Dean Dorton).
- Support clients with their year-end clean up or closing to meet filing requirements and deadlines.
- Support clients with year in 1099 and payroll reporting
- Manage accounting initiatives, processes and activities for Dean Dorton Small Business Accounting Services clients.
- Evaluate processes, procedures and policies in assigned areas. Make recommendations and support the development and implementation of new/revised accounting systems processes, etc.
- Serve as advisor to clients on special requests, projects, efficiencies, processes, etc.
- Support clients with annual budgeting process, analysis and reporting.
- Serve as Bill Manager for assigned clients and follow firm processes to ensure clients are billed correctly, thoroughly and timely.
- Design implementation of services for new Small Business Accounting Services clients, including the design of financial statements, application of accounting software, etc.

- Responsible for the Dean Dorton Small Business Accounting Services client experience.
- Interview, select, orient, train and manage Small Business Accounting Services team members.
- Manage and prioritize team member client assignments and oversee/review work product for those team members and those clients.
- Provide strong level of service to internal clients and work with other departments in managing external client relationships and needs.
- Accountable for knowledge and communication of changing trends, industry specialization and local, state and federal laws, regulations and ordinances.
- Support the business development process by meeting with current and prospective clients and drafting business proposals.
- Meet productivity goals.
- Meet internal and client deadlines.

Technical Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or relevant work experience.
- Minimum of five (4) to seven (6) years of accounting management experience required.
- People leadership experience, including training, coaching and enhancing employee performance, preferred.
- Hands on experience with enterprise accounting systems expected. Including Quick Book and accounting CS or related programs
- Advanced working knowledge of Excel preferred.
- Flexibility in addressing client needs as they arise.
- Time management and organizational skills required as this role will manage multiple clients and several team members.
- Ability to communicate efficiently and timely with clients, outside vendors, and team members.
- Problem solving skills to effectively solve unique client accounting issues.
