Senior Accountant / Financial Analyst
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant / Financial Analyst to support their finance and accounting operations. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial records, preparing and reviewing complex journal entries, conducting variance analysis, and supporting audits and financial reporting processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and oversee general ledger integrity and financial record accuracy.
- Prepare and review complex journal entries, including accruals, allocations, and inter company transactions.
- Analyze and interpret financial statements in compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct advanced variance analysis; identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Generate detailed financial reports and assist in preparing quarterly board reporting packages.
- Support annual budget development and perform monthly variance analysis on cost centers.
- Monitor performance against budget and recommend cost control measures.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, contracts, and external regulations.
- Support internal and external audit preparation and documentation.
- Recommend improvements to financial processes and assist with system implementations.
- Review and approve work of junior accounting staff; provide training and mentorship as needed.
- Collaborate with other departments on financial matters and special projects.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required (IT coursework preferred). Masters degree preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of related accounting or finance experience. Experience in public sector, transportation, or governmental accounting is a plus.
Certifications (Preferred):
CPA, CMA, or CFE.
Required Skills and Competencies:
In-depth knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting. Proficient in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Quick Books). Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, V LOOKUP, macros). Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with SOX or IFRS compliance preferred. Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is a plus.
