Job Description and Duties

* This position is expected to receive a salary range increase on July 1, 2025. CalHR Pay Scales have not yet reflected this change. *
MetropolitanState Hospital is located in the city of Norwalk.

The Accounting Department is seeking to hire a permanent, full-time Accountant I Specialist. Under the direction of the Senior Accounting Officer Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for the more difficult semi-professional accounting work in the Accounts Payable Unit. The duties assigned to this position include but are not limited to the following: process payments to vendors within strict deadlines; organize, match and prioritize invoices, stock receipts and purchase documents; audit and analyze various documents and files to determine appropriate payment to be made; input vouchers into the accounting system; maintain accurate payment logs; interact with vendors and employees to resolve payment issues; determine which vendor payments are reportable for use tax; if necessary, calculate and process penalties to ven dors for late payments; evaluate the validity of encumbrance balances; reconcile purchase document balances on a regular basis; and prepare accrual entries at year-end.

Other duties may include: processing check requests, assisting with payroll processing for release and distribution to employees, assisting with Calaters claims and appointments, assisting with accounts receivable activities, and auditing petty cash. Incumbent will also assist in other duties as directed.

Excellent attendance, strong analytical skills, and good computer skills are required.

DSH-Metropolitan State Hospital has an open campus within a security perimeter. The hospital operates approximately 826 beds.
