Job Description
Provide general assistance to patrons at the Public Services Desks and maintain the library collection.
Primary Responsibilities
Public Service Student Assistants provide general assistance to patrons at the Public Services Desks; check materials in and out; answer basic directional and reference questions which include electronic and print resources; make referrals; assist patrons with basic library needs; shelve; shelf-read; provide clerical support; conduct inventories; search for materials; shift the collection; dust and straighten shelving/books; perform pick-ups of all four floors of the library; other related stacks maintenance duties as assigned. Some weekly night or weekend shifts may be required and schedules are somewhat flexible.
Qualifications
General: Excellent customer service skills, an ability to work independently, reliability, and attention to detail are essential.
Skill: Proficient written and verbal communication skills, computer literate, ability to interact tactfully and efficiently with students, staff and faculty members and library users, self motivated and dependable; needs to be able to work with minimal supervision; must be capable of putting items in alphabetical and numerical order, particularly in regards to decimals.
Physical: Manual dexterity; light lifting; some exposure to dust.
Academic: Maintains "B" GPA or above.
Knowledge of libraries, collection maintenance in an academic/learning environment, academic research and Library of Congress classification system are desirable.
Any candidate who is offered this position will be required to go through a pre-employment criminal background check as mandated by state law.
