Senior Accessibility Specialist
and become a key player in enhancing the accessibility of Department of Defense (DoD) information for individuals with disabilities, adhering to Section 508 standards. You will leverage your expertise to provide enterprise-wide guidance, policy development, and comprehensive evaluation to ensure compliance and increase awareness of Section 508. This role offers a flexible 50% hybrid work schedule, requiring you to be in-office at The Mark Center two to three days per week. This position mandates U.S. citizenship and an active Secret clearance to begin. Key Responsibilities: Advise on the implementation of Section 508 standards across DoD operations. Enhance understanding and awareness of Section 508 through analytical and programmatic support services. Independently assess compliance levels for Electronic & Information Technology (EIT) and recommend improvements. Contribute insights to support DoD CIO's strategic goals related to accessibility. Support policy development and provide recommendations for creating and maintaining accessible environments within the DoD. Engage in the evaluation process of current EIT solutions to ensure they meet accessibility standards. Basic Qualifications: Master's degree with 12+ years of relevant experience in Section 508 or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree. In-depth knowledge of Section 508 standards, WCAG 2.0 guidelines, and related regulations. Familiarity with assistive technologies and practices for electronic document accessibility. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Experience in formulating policies, guidelines, and training materials. Proficiency in manual and automated accessibility testing tools (e.g., ANDI, MS Accessibility Insights, Axe). Mastery of Office 365 Applications, including understanding document formatting and built-in tools. Familiarity with Content Management Systems (CMS) and basic HTML/CSS for accessibility improvements. Solid knowledge of SharePoint and collaborative tools. Excellent presentation skills, capable of creating effective presentation materials. Ability to work autonomously or as part of a team.
