Use obstetric triage acuity tools. Perform labor assessment and evaluation. Conduct fetal evaluation and assessment. Evaluate for labor at term, signs of preterm labor, symptoms of preeclampsia, rupture of membranes, decreased fetal movement, preterm premature rupture of membranes, vaginal bleeding, and acute or critical conditions. If an emergency medical condition is determined to exist, stabilize the patient for delivery or transfer to a higher level of care if needed. Provide labor assessment, evaluation, and care during intrapartum. Prepare expectant mothers for safe delivery. Administer medications including but not limited to Pitocin, misoprostol, and mag sulfate. Stabilize newborns immediately. Administer newborn medications. Prepare for scheduled or emergency cesarean delivery. Assess and care for postpartum patients after vaginal and cesarean deliveries as well as newborn patients. Provide newborn care including hearing screens, laboratory draws, IV starts and care, and medication administration. Assist with circumcisions and care of newborns undergoing opiate withdrawal. Stabilize critically ill newborns for transport and perform phototherapy and hypoglycemia care.
