We are seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to join our team in Indianapolis. This role involves designing, developing, and programming industrial automation systems, with a strong focus on Allen Bradley PLCs and FANUC robot integration. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, collaborative, and capable of supporting automation projects both locally and at customer sites (travel up to 20%).
Key Responsibilities:
- Program and troubleshoot Allen Bradley PLCs (RSLogix 5000/Studio 5000) from scratch
- Integrate and support FANUC robotic systems in automated environments
- Design and implement control system architecture including HMIs, VFDs, sensors, and safety components
- Perform system testing, startup, and commissioning at customer sites
- Support ongoing improvement of machine controls and automation processes
- Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineering teams to deliver complete automation solutions
- Create and maintain documentation including schematics, IO lists, and user manuals
- Ensure adherence to safety and industry standards across all control systems
- Provide technical support to internal teams and customers during and after installation
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years of experience in controls engineering in an industrial or manufacturing setting
- Proficiency with Allen Bradley PLC programming from scratch
- Experience working with and programming FANUC robots
- Familiarity with HMI design and integration (e.g., FactoryTalk View)
- Willingness to travel up to 20%; must be able to work on-site when not traveling
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
