We are seeking a seasoned Toolmaker with strong experience in plastic injection mold building, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting. This position will also play a key role in training team members on equipment use and best practices, with a specific focus on EDM, machining, or grinding processes. The ideal candidate will bring deep hands-on knowledge working with complex tooling, particularly 2-shot tools, hot runners, and manifolds, and will be confident working on large equipment with tight tolerances.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, assemble, and maintain injection molds, components, jigs, and fixtures.
- Train qualified employees on safe and proper use of:
- EDM machines (Sinker, Wire, Hole Popper)
- CNC and manual machining centers (Hard Mill, Bridgeport mills)
- Manual grinding equipment
- Read and interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings; determine appropriate machine operations and finishing specs.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues related to mold performance and part quality.
- Perform precision work to exacting tolerances and tight dimensional standards.
- Set up, inspect, and qualify molds for production use.
- Use proper shop equipment and precision measurement tools to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and maintenance teams to address tooling issues or continuous improvement efforts.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and safe machining practices at all times.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in injection mold making, toolmaking, or a related machining trade.
- Strong working knowledge of hot runner systems, manifolds, and 2-shot injection molding tools (experience with 2-shot tooling is highly desired).
- Proficient in working on large tooling with small tolerance allowances.
- CNC machining experience is strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience with TPC and Polycarbonate materials is a plus.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify and resolve mold/tooling issues independently.
- Comfortable mentoring and training less experienced technicians.
