Position Overview:
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing all procurement activities for plumbing, framing, concrete, and general building materials. This role ensures the company maintains optimal inventory levels, secures competitive pricing, and builds strong supplier relationships. The Purchasing Manager leads a team of three and works cross-functionally across departments to ensure a smooth supply chain across both warehouse locations.
We’re looking for a hands-on leader who understands the pace of distribution, can hold vendors and team members accountable, and knows how to find the best combination of price, availability, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
· Lead the daily operations of the Purchasing Department and manage three direct reports.
· Forecast material needs and maintain appropriate inventory levels to meet operational demand.
· Source, negotiate, and maintain relationships with suppliers and manufacturers to secure the best pricing, terms, and service.
· Monitor vendor performance and address quality, delivery, or service issues as needed.
· Coordinate with Warehouse teams to ensure fulfillment timelines are met.
· Monitor market trends and availability of key materials.
· Manage purchase orders: creation, accuracy, cost validation, and follow-through until delivery.
· Collaborate with Accounting to resolve invoice discrepancies and ensure timely payments.
· Identify cost-saving opportunities and manage rebate programs.
· Support tool and equipment procurement in coordination with the Tool Repair department as needed.
· Train, coach, and evaluate purchasing staff to ensure high performance and accountability.
Requirements:
· Lead the daily operations of the Purchasing Department and manage three direct reports.
· 3+ years in a Purchasing Manager or Senior Buyer role, preferably in plumbing materials.
· Strong negotiation skills and experience working directly with vendors and manufacturers.
· Working knowledge of supply chain logistics, vendor terms, and material forecasting.
· Proven ability to lead a team in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
· Proficient with
purchasing/inventory
software (e.g., BisTrack, Eclipse, or similar). · Excellent communication and organizational skills. Nice to Have: · Familiarity with plumbing prefab operations or tool repair workflows. · Experience working in a dual-location or multi-branch environment. · Experience managing stable, high-volume materials with a focus on inventory and vendor cost strategy.
