Responsibilities
Lead and perform complex roadway design tasks for a variety of transportation projects, including new alignments, widenings, resurfacings, and intersection improvements for INDOT and local agencies
Develop and review detailed plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) for roadway projects in accordance with INDOT and local standards
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers, fostering a collaborative and learning-focused team environment
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including traffic, drainage, structures, utilities, and environmental staff, to ensure integrated project delivery
Conduct and oversee engineering analyses, including horizontal and vertical alignments, grading, cross sections, quantities, and constructability reviews
Serve as a technical resource for clients, responding to design-related questions and providing innovative, cost-effective solutions
Support quality control and quality assurance processes, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of deliverables
Participate in client meetings, design meetings, and field reviews as a technical expert
Stay current with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and INDOT / local agency requirements
Assist with proposal development, project scoping, and fee estimation for roadway design pursuits
Skills and Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from ABET accredited school
10+ years of progressive roadway design experience, with a focus on INDOT and / or local agency projects
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Indiana (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
Advanced proficiency in MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and related design software
Demonstrated technical expertise in roadway geometrics, plan development, and PS&E preparation
Strong knowledge of INDOT and AASHTO design standards, manuals, and procedures
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to clients and team members
Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and mentor junior staff
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Experience with quality control / quality assurance processes for transportation design projects
Experience working directly with Indiana municipalities, counties, or regional planning agencies
Knowledge of Indiana local government infrastructure needs and regulatory environment
Familiarity with alternative delivery methods (Design-Build, CMGC, Progressive Design-Build)
Involvement in professional organizations such as ASCE, ITE, or ACEC
Experience with public engagement and stakeholder coordination
