Summary As a Principal Software Engineer at Fortellar, you will be responsible for owning the technical vision and architecture of innovative AI-forward products and services. This role requires deep expertise in modern AI tools and services, hands-on Large Language Model (LLM) integrations and/or development (with current top-tier LLMs), and a proven track record in stealth startup environments.

This position also requires senior level support and guidance of our product services division (architecture, strategy, standards, tools, frameworks) ensuring the technology infrastructure and software development practices support and drive Fortellar’s strategic goals. With a deep understanding of both the technical and business sides of the company, you will design and implement architectures that enable a new operating model, leveraging your expertise in CI/CD processes to streamline development leveraging AI-forward strategies.

At the end of the day, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting the overall AI architectural strategy and ecosystem for a new stealth startup focused on addressing core needs in the compliance and security space across multiple industries, ensuring that decisions support the business goals and strategic objectives, enabling organizations to achieve their strategic objectives. Key Responsibilities Design and architect scalable, robust, and secure enterprise software solutions. Lead AI/ML integrations, including building systems with state-of-the-art LLMs such as Anthropic Claude, OpenAI GPT, Google Gemini, Meta Llama and other LLMs based on the strategic benefits and needs of our product strategy Evaluate, select, and integrate AI frameworks, APIs, and tools tailored to organizational needs

(e.g., Code Assistants, Agentic workflows, RAG Architecture, and MCP) . Oversee and coach teams through full software development lifecycle—from ideation to deployment. Ensure architectural integrity and adherence to industry best practices for cloud, security, and data privacy. Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, and business leaders to align technical solutions with strategic goals. Leverage experience gained in stealth startups to operate efficiently in high-pressure, low-profile, and fast-paced environments. Drive innovation while maintaining quality, reliability, and performance expectations Experience & Education Education: Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or another relevant field plus combined equivalent of on-the-job experience. 10+ years of industry relevant software engineering and enterprise architecture design experience, leading the implementation of new systems and technologies ensuring they meet the organization's needs. Proven leadership in stealth startups: comfortable operating under secrecy, minimizing public exposure, and delivering innovative solutions under resource and information constraints. Expertise in AI/ML: Familiarity with deploying and fine-tuning leading LLMs (see above) and integration of modern AI services. Strong hands-on knowledge of multiple programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, .NET, Go, Ruby, R, C#) and frameworks (abstraction, reusability etc.).

Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, cloud-native architecture (AWS, Azure, GCP). Experience with cloud AI services, MLOps pipelines, and scalable data infrastructure. Knowledge of security best practices, DevOps, and automation. Demonstrated ability to write and review complex code, conduct code reviews, and maintain high quality standards Experience leading the design and deployment of enterprise architecture frameworks that drive end-to-end organizational transformation and scalability. Experience building AI & Automation into architectures foundation and roadmap. Demonstrated experience working closely with business leaders, becoming a recognized expert in the organization’s business processes and requirements and ensuring the IT strategy aligns with the overall business goals. Designed and architected solutions that successfully supported new business operating models, incorporating modern technologies and frameworks to drive efficiency and innovation. Experience with various serverless, containerized and orchestration technologies. Experience leading and participating in successful digital and modernization transformation(s). Implemented and managed CI/CD pipelines for software development, ensuring seamless, automated processes for integration and deployment. Mentored and guided junior architects and developers (future). It goes without saying, but we will say it anyway…You must be a master communicator, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate technical concepts into understandable terms for diverse stakeholders. You can turn a stressful, frustrating situation into one where people leave with clarity and feeling heard and understood. Interview Process Three rounds of interviews meeting with our technical leaders, product and operations executives, and Fortellar Co-Founder. Conversations will be a mix of technical and soft skills. One round includes a collaborative architecture/pseudo code exercise.
