Position Summary The Manager, Laboratory, CRS is responsible for the direction and management of a team of technicians, chemists, and/or engineers who perform testing services to determine the performance, chemical and/or physical composition of consumer products. Job Functions Responsible for laboratory operation; manages production, distribution and marketing operations Has full supervisory responsibility of employees, both direct and indirect reports (hiring: interviewing, selection; planning work, scheduling, performance evaluations, performance management and termination for employees). Performs annual performance evaluations of direct reports, and indirect reports, as applicable. Schedules work flow through the department so that client deadlines are met in a timely fashion; monitors throughput and performance. Determines the priority status of all samples in each day's lab batch and ensures the expedited processing of samples to meet client's requirements. Trains all new laboratory technicians and reinforces their training with copies of applicable standards, specifically ISO 17025 and customer specific protocols. Develops, writes, reviews, performs and validates test methods, laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and other department level operating and quality documents. Reviews and signs data sheets and reports. Develops, reviews, submits and files reports on client sample tests, correlation tests, calibration, validation and other projects. Ensures each person within their responsibility has undergone an orientation and has sufficient knowledge for their safety and health while at work. Ensures that each person has sufficient information, resources and materials to do their job safely. Responsible for enforcing all safety rules and regulations. This applies to all persons employed at the branch as well as anyone visiting or passing through the affected areas. Develops and maintains maintenance schedules for all equipment located in the laboratory. Responsible for purchasing all laboratory equipment and supplies. A written list of all items required will be developed and reviewed with the branch manager prior to purchase. These lists are reviewed periodically for content and effectiveness. Develops plans for efficient use of materials, instruments, and employees. Review all round robin and quality control data on a daily basis and update all quality control logs and charts as required. Develops a storage system where all laboratory worksheets, notebooks, tablets, and other paperwork or files can be stored to comply with company Records Retention schedule. Schedules and conducts a review meeting once each month for the purpose of reviewing and/or updating procedures, discussing existing or potential problems, reinforcing safety rules, and detailing work schedules. Ensures that all calibrations, standardizations, and equipment maintenance are performed at the specified times, that they are in accordance with all company procedures and specifications, and the results of these tests are recorded in all logs. Instructs all new employees on the confidentiality aspects of analytical reports and information and perform periodic reviews. Assigns staff to carry out and complete tasks according to established work procedures. Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. Makes day-to-day decisions within group; may delegate decisions to supervisory direct reports Has full authority for all personnel actions of direct and indirect reports Qualifications
Education and Experience Education Requirement Bachelor's Degree in relevant discipline or equivalent years of education and experience 7+ years working in either an industrial or laboratory setting with experience following strict safety standards 2+ years of experience with Quality Management System ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 compliance AND 3+ years supervisory experience Experience working in a multinational organization International business exposure with consumer products a plus Additional Information
