We have an exciting new opportunity and are currently looking to add a Senior Engineering Technician (HVAC/AC&R) to our Surface Engineering Maintenance Assist Team, supporting the Naval Base San Diego, California. This position will provide HVAC/AC&R maintenance and maintenance training, to assist shipboard personnel in the operation, maintenance and assessment of HVAC/AC&R equipment including but not limited to: Heating, cooling, air conditioning and refrigeration systems onboard U.S. Navy vessels and all facilities tasks related to work areas. Electronic Cooling/Dry Air system, and associated repairs, and to instruct Ships Force personnel to conduct functional checks and operational test of those systems/equipment onboard U.S. Navy CG, DDG and Amphib Class ships home ported or in the port in San Diego, California. Duties and Responsibilities: Required to conform to all Quality Assurance, Safety and Health procedures. Provide HVAC/AC&R engineering and technical support and training for specified U.S. Navy CG, DDG and Amphib class ships on a schedule established by the TA. Assist Ships Force in performing necessary repairs to and testing of onboard installed HVAC/AC&R equipment. Assist Ships Force with the assessment, renovation and repairs of components and equipment in accordance with technical manuals and PMS documentation as directed by the TA for identified discrepancies and assigned Automated Work Requests (AWR). Assist Ships Force in performing inspections and operation performance tests of HVAC/AC&R equipment. Provide technical assistance to correct equipment and system discrepancies, and recommendations for correction of deficiencies. Provide engineering and technical support services and assist Ships Force in diagnosing equipment problems, making repairs, and maintaining systems equipment. Assess, troubleshoot, and assist ships force with repair of all shipboard HVAC/AC&R Equipment, etc. Repair systems that utilize a variety of methods for air conditioning and heating such as mechanical compression, vapor compression, absorption, steam jet or air cycle. Develop and provide equipment/system training guides. Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units, using electricians hand tools and test equipment. May install, repair and service air conditioning units ranging from small window units to centralized units up to 300 tons cooling capacity. Other duties as assigned. Experience/Qualifications: 12 years of experience with either shipboard marine HVAC or skilled facilities technician trades experience with related Air Conditioning & Refrigeration maintenance and repair experience. Must posses a Universal EPA Certification. Must be certified to handle, retrieve and recharge refrigerant (EPA Section 608 Certification). Must be able to read and interpret equipment and systems ship drawings and ship technical documents and manuals. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense confidential security clearance and base access. Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes, no less than 30lbs. Must be able to work on and climb ladders. Be able to work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as assigned which may involve high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions as well as working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May require wearing a respirator. Valid drivers license

Qualifications: Understanding of ship electrical power, heating, air conditioning, refrigeration and isolation, hot work, confined spaces work, and fire-watches (Fire Safety Watch requirements). Understanding of industrial U.S. Navy ship repair activities, as well as ship layout, configuration, control plates, placards, markings, and symbols. maintenance experience with systems. ADA Notations Ability to traverse narrow passageways, ladders/stairs, and confined spaces. Requires walking, reaching, sitting and concentration in the presence of occasional noise. Able to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs. in weight.
