Sr Design Engineer Aurora, IL Full Time / Onsite We're seeking a talented Senior Design Engineer to join our innovative team. The ideal candidate will have a strong portfolio showcasing their design and engineering abilities in the following areas: Mechanical Design and Engineering Expertise: Deep understanding of mechanical principles, kinematics, and structural analysis. Electromechanical and thermodynamics experience is a plus. Advanced skills in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) for modeling, assembly, drafting; FEA experience is a plus. Knowledge of materials like steel, aluminum, plastics, and their applications in product design, focusing on suitability and aesthetics. Familiarity with manufacturing techniques such as metal fabrication, injection molding, and assembly processes to ensure designs are cost-effective and manufacturable. Innovative Design Thinking and Problem-Solving: Ability to generate novel and practical solutions for complex design challenges, focusing on ease of installation, durability, and aesthetic appeal. Understanding of ergonomics and user interaction with physical products like kiosks and mounts to ensure safety, intuitive use, and visual appeal. Experience in developing and validating prototypes, conducting design verification testing, and implementing design changes based on test results. Collaboration and Leadership Potential: Ability to work effectively with product management, manufacturing, QA, and other disciplines. Demonstrates initiative and potential to lead design projects, mentor junior engineers, and drive technical decisions within a team. Willingness to learn new technologies and apply creative problem-solving from other industries to the AV accessories space. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Minimum of five years of broad-based manufacturing experience. Skills / Abilities: Effective communication and writing skills. Proficiency in PC operations. Experience with 3D modeling software (SolidWorks preferred). Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. Essential Results: Initiate project objectives by studying design plans, engineering drawings, and reviewing specifications and requirements. Maintain project schedule by monitoring progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems. Design and conduct research on mechanical and electromechanical systems, applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials; study customer requirements, research manufacturing and assembly methods. Design feasibility and testing methods to verify system, part, and product capabilities; analyze and summarize data trends. Develop manufacturing processes and ensure quality by designing and modifying equipment, testing finished products, and confirming fabrication and assembly processes. Provide engineering information by responding to questions and requests. Maintain systems and product databases by collecting, analyzing, and entering data. Knowledge of UL, ISO 9001 / 2000 standards. Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed. Perform any other duties as required. Working Conditions: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. without assistance; above 30 lbs. requires team lift. Ability to reach above shoulder, waist, and below waist levels. Use of pallet jacks, lifting equipment, and chain hoist/gantry crane. Use of hand tools such as cordless drills and pneumatic rivet guns. Work in non-dust, non-climate-controlled areas. Wearing required safety PPE.
