Overview

We are seeking a self-starter who can drive embedded software development from concept to completion. This role involves gathering and documenting software requirements based on customer input, designing and implementing system architecture while performing necessary trade-offs, and estimating the effort required for successful project execution. The candidate will be responsible for planning and executing multiple concurrent projects, collaborating with both internal teams and customers at all levels. Additionally, the role includes hardware bring-up support, including unit integration and verification testing to ensure seamless system functionality.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and debug embedded firmware for microcontrollers and processors. Support hardware bring-up, including Power-On Self-Test (POST) and Built-In Test (BIT). Develop and integrate bootloaders over serial interfaces. Design, develop, and test software applications using Microsoft Visual Studio and C#. Implement and validate serial communication protocols (UART, I2C, SPI, USB, Ethernet, MODBUS). Utilize JTAG, ILA, and VIO for debugging and verification. Work with MISRA and CMSIS coding standards for software development. Utilize LabView, Python, or Arduino for test and automation when needed.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Minimum 8 years of experience in embedded software architecture and development with with a strong emphasis on space, defense, and RF-based systems. OR 6 years of experience may be considered with a Master’s Degree. OR 3 years of experience may be considered with a PhD. Proven experience developing firmware for Microchip MPLAB, PIC32, ARM Cortex-M, and familiarity with STM32, particularly in high-reliability or radiation-tolerant environments. Hands-on experience developing and integrating bootloaders, low-level hardware drivers, serial interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, RS-485), and MODBUS protocols for embedded RF or defense systems. Demonstrated expertise in board bring-up, hardware-software integration, and system-level debug for RF or mixed-signal electronic assemblies. Experience working with RTOS environments, task scheduling, interrupt-driven firmware architectures, and familiarity with DO-178 or equivalent aerospace/defense firmware development standards. Knowledge of FPGA integration with embedded systems, including familiarity with RTL coding, simulation, and SoC interfaces is a plus. Practical experience implementing and troubleshooting serial communication interfaces and protocols for embedded payload controllers, RF subsystems, or defense-grade electronics. Proficiency in embedded C and assembly, with the ability to optimize firmware for performance, reliability, and deterministic behavior in mission-critical applications. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-project environment, collaborating closely with hardware, RF design, FPGA, mechanical, and systems engineering teams as well as with defense and space customers.

Additional Information

This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by either ITAR or EAR U.S. export laws. As a condition to this job offer, in order to be employed in this position, you must be able to obtain an U.S. Government export license(s), as required by law. Pay Range: $150,000 - $185,000 annually. Applicable pay within the posted range may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographical location, job function of the position, education, and experience of the successful candidate.
