Full-Time Description:
The School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies is pleased to invite applications for a clinical-track Academic Faculty in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies at Hofstra University. The Department of Physician Assistant Studies welcomes applications for Physician Assistant faculty.
The Hofstra Northwell Department of Physician Assistant Studies’ mission is to create an interprofessional environment that fosters PA leaders and scholars who deliver empathetic, patient-centered care, and promote inclusivity to the diverse populations they serve.
Teaching Responsibilities: Provides dual-degree, didactic year, clinical year and/or research semester instruction. Courses in the PA program are offered, and required, during the Fall, Spring and Summer terms. Instructs and assesses students in courses such as physical examination and diagnostic modalities courses, correlative medicine, structure lab, simulation activities, and summative exams. Proctors examinations. Identification of students with performance deficiencies and development of strategies to address deficiencies including remediation exercises. Act as a liaison to core faculty for college resources, textbooks, and teaching materials. Updates instructional materials on learning management systems (i.e. Canvas). Assures course materials are posted. Other related responsibilities as determined by the program director.
Faculty Program Responsibilities:
Participate in program committees. Active participation in School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies governance. Develop scholarly projects. Participate in faculty development and in the Physician Assistant Education Association Represent the PA Department in University-wide and community admissions events and other activities as required. Serve as a reviewer and evaluator in the selection of applicants as a member of the program’s Admission Committee. Provide academic counseling to students. Participate in curriculum development, design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the program. Assure availability of remediation. Actively participates in: oThe development, review, and revision of the program mission. oThe development, review, and revision of program goals and competencies. oSupporting student performance.
Duties necessary for program maintenance of accreditation. Attends, participates in, and prepares for all student orientation sessions. Attends, prepares for, and participates in all faculty, end-of-semester, student-faculty, retreat, and all other departmental meetings. Other related responsibilities as determined by the program director.
Supplemental Administrative Duties of Research Coordinator:
Is responsible for the overall coordination of the research semester and schedule. Coordination actions include, but are not limited to: oAssures students are registered for research courses. oMonitoring, updating, and revision of syllabi. oCoordination of instructional sessions. oCreates, updates, changes, distributes, monitors, and grades student assignments and assessments. oDevelop instruments to record and assess the overall efficacy of didactic courses: Testing instruments reflecting course objectives. Validation and standardization of testing instruments. Curriculum adherence to national and state accreditation requirements.
Develop participatory research opportunities for all students. Identify research sites and on-site preceptors. Obtain IRB approval as necessary. Draft data use agreements and all other necessary clearance documentation, including medical clearance. Create data collection tools (surveys, interview guides) as necessary. Oversee written capstone projects Coordinate research poster conference Oversee the development of summary reports of assessment results Mentor faculty research and grant-related activities. Initiate grant proposals. Provide faculty support for grant proposals. Mentor faculty research and grant-related activities Initiate, coordinate, and facilitate dissemination of research by students and faculty. Works with academic coordinators to review and update the student handbook annually.
Note: The duties and responsibilities of the Research Coordinator portion of this role are conducted by the incumbent once having been approved via supplemental administrative appointment. Supplemental administrative appointments are issued, and up for renewal or discontinuation, each academic year. Compensation for all duties and responsibilities performed by supplemental administrative appointments are via stipend in addition to the base salary of the incumbent.
Reports to: Directly to the Physician Assistant Program Director and is responsible to the Chair of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies and the Dean of the School of the Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies.
Qualifications:
Has a minimum of a terminal degree in their field, including but not limited to: public health, health professions education, or a related field. Has knowledge of and commitment to the physician assistant profession. Must have a willingness to participate in a collective faculty process.
