Director of Human Resources
to lead our HR function with a strong focus on employee relations, engagement, and legal compliance. About the Role This is a people-first business. Our employees are the core of our success, and keeping them informed, trained, supported, and happy is our top priority. The Director of HR will be the primary partner to our Operations team, building strong relationships with the field. You will work closely with leaders and managers to ensure their teams are trained on HR matters, policies are consistently applied, and we remain fully compliant with all applicable labor laws—especially in California, where regulations are complex and evolving. Key Responsibilities Employee Relations:
Lead all employee relations efforts across 600+ team members, ensuring issues are addressed quickly, fairly, and with empathy. Serve as the point of contact for HR-related inquiries from both employees and managers. Field Partnership:
Maintain regular communication with field and salon leaders and work closely with the operations team to understand and support their needs. HR Training & Support:
Provide ongoing training to field leaders on HR policies, employee engagement, performance management, and compliance. Coach managers on documentation, performance issues, and conflict resolution. Multi-State Legal Compliance:
Interpret and apply federal, state, and local labor laws to ensure HR practices remain compliant across all supported states, with deep expertise in California requirements. Employee Life Cycle Management:
Oversee onboarding, status changes, leaves of absence, and terminations while ensuring a smooth and compliant process. Leadership & Oversight:
Manage and support our Payroll Administrator and Recruiter to ensure accurate payroll, effective recruiting, and smooth onboarding. Recruitment Support:
Partner with the recruiting function to ensure we attract and hire top talent aligned with our culture and service standards. Benefits & Leaves:
Administer benefits programs, guide employees through open enrollment and qualifying events, and manage leave processes. HR Systems & Reporting:
Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in the HRIS and partner with payroll, finance, and department leads to ensure HR data accuracy and timely reporting. Projects & Audits:
Assist with audits, HR projects, and process improvement initiatives that strengthen operations and compliance. Culture Champion:
Foster a positive, inclusive, and productive workplace culture that drives engagement and retention. Qualifications 5+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, ideally in a high-volume, multi-unit environment. Extensive knowledge of state and federal employment laws, with expert-level understanding of California labor law. Proven success in employee relations and building trust with field teams. Strong understanding of payroll, benefits, and leave administration. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset.
