Director of Engineering
to lead and scale its engineering organization. The company builds cutting-edge tools that combine advanced data science, machine learning, and bioinformatics to deliver secure, actionable health insights to customers. The Role Reporting directly to the CTO, you’ll be responsible for setting engineering strategy, establishing scalable processes, and making key architectural decisions. You’ll lead teams building internal systems for scientific and healthcare applications—focusing on high-performance, compliant infrastructure rather than purely consumer-facing products. Responsibilities: Scale an engineering team from ~18 to 35–50 engineers over the next 1–2 years Develop and implement engineering best practices, processes, and organizational structures Make strategic architectural and data infrastructure decisions Remain ~10% hands-on with coding and technical reviews Deliver high-quality systems in a CAP/CLIA/FDA-regulated environment Collaborate with executive leadership to align technical initiatives with company goals Requirements: 8+ years of industry experience, with proven leadership at the Director level or higher Experience successfully scaling engineering teams during rapid growth Strong background in Python development Experience in biotech, healthcare, or other high-compliance industries Proven ability to build teams and processes from the ground up Nice-to-Haves: Bioinformatics or genomics experience Exposure to front-end development (while primarily backend-focused) Hands-on coding experience in addition to leadership roles Career history spanning multiple organizations and growth stages Logistics & Compensation: Hybrid role: 2–3 days/week onsite in San Francisco Seniority level
