Summary The Flight Equipment Mechanic provides inspection, maintenance, repair, and quality assurance for Aviation Life Support Systems (ALSS) and related flight equipment used by Marine Corps and Navy personnel at MCAS New River. This role ensures all assigned equipment is serviceable, safe, and compliant with applicable technical manuals, Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) standards, and Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP) requirements.
Responsibilities Inspect, maintain, and repair ALSS equipment including, but not limited to:
Survival vests, oxygen masks, helmets, harnesses, and flotation devices Ejection seat components and parachute systems Anti-G suits and personal survival equipment
Perform packing and repacking of parachutes in accordance with established guidelines. Conduct functional tests, troubleshoot issues, and replace defective parts. Document all maintenance actions in OOMA/NALCOMIS in compliance with Navy and Marine Corps standards. Maintain accountability and inventory of assigned tools and equipment. Serve as Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) or Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative (CDQAR) when designated, ensuring all work meets quality and safety standards. Adhere to all safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Assist in training junior personnel on ALSS maintenance procedures Required Qualifications Minimum 3–5 years of direct experience as a Flight Equipment Mechanic, ALSS Technician, or equivalent role in a Navy or Marine Corps aviation unit. Working knowledge of OOMA/NALCOMIS for recording and tracking maintenance actions. Familiarity with applicable NAVAIR technical manuals and NAMP procedures. Ability to pass physical requirements related to lifting, climbing, and handling equipment. Must meet eligibility requirements for base access. CDI/CDQAR certification preferred (or ability to obtain). Preferred Qualifications Prior service in the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps as an Aircrew Survival Equipmentman (PR) or equivalent MOS/Rating. Experience at MCAS New River or similar rotary-wing aviation environment Current or prior military aviation maintenance certification(s). EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent-General Educational Development (GED) certificate. CH/MH-53E, AH-1Z, UH-1Y, V-22 Airframe Experience one or more. Must obtain and maintain the level of Industrial Security Clearance required by the Government. Must be able to obtain and maintain required clearance for Common Access Card (CAC). Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain the required U.S. Govt Clearance or Access designated.

While performing the outdoor field duties of this job, the employee will also be exposed to outside weather conditions and other conditions such as loud noises, fumes, odors, dust, etc. This position may require travel.
