Purpose

The job duties will include assisting with moderate to complex projects as a part of a crew in the assembly, vacuum oil fill, testing, maintenance, and/or repair of power transformers for any original equipment manufacturer (OEM) brands under the guidance of our Lead or Senior Field Service Technicians. Equipment size voltages can range from 480V up to 800kV. The primary work setting will be outdoors and will be accomplished during all climatic conditions. Tasks may require moderate to heavy amounts of physical effort and an understanding that electrical hazards may exist. Attention to safety is required.

Main Responsibilities Perform hands-on assembly, repairs, and maintenance to transformers and our service equipment under the guidance of the senior and or lead field service technicians. This would include mechanical and electrical connections on or inside the transformer. Proactively support the team during maintenance services so that all tasks are completed safely, timely, and with the upmost quality. Operate the oil processor and make standard transformer test connections under the guidance of our senior and or lead field service technicians. Assist other technicians with general equipment maintenance and restocking supplies. Review project itinerary, work scope, and drawings prior to arriving onsite for a clear understanding of the requirements. Maintain your bi-monthly timesheets and weekly expense reports for a timely submittal. Responsibilities & Duties

Vacuum Processor Knowledge:

Confident in their understanding of how oil processors function and is able to complete vacuum logs, circulate oil, process oil, and drain/fill a unit. Assembly:

Able to complete the mechanical and electrical assembly/connections specified by engineering drawings, work instructions, and procedures. Able to perform common transformer services such as gasket replacements, oil processing, drains, relocations, retro fills, and internal inspections. Warranty work:

Capable of performing product and field warranty work and is able to identify/troubleshoot issues unsupervised (leaks, replacing gauges, radiators, current transformers, etc.). Technical Assistance:

Capable of supervising a customer installation, by correctly answering customer/3rd party questions, through effective communication skills. This includes being proficient with installs, testing, and oil processing, but can sometimes include uncommon work like mobile units, LTC work, conservator units, etc. Testing:

Able to perform DSFS standard field testing of a transformer, including but not limited to testing: Insulation resistance, overall power factor, bushing power factor C1 & C2, hot collar, excitation, surge arrester, insulating oil tests, and confirmation of basic controls operation (fans/LTC/nitrogen system). Assembly Component Knowledge: Identification of components and implementation of proper tools, identification of loose parts, ability to crosscheck shipping manifest and work scope to know what is missing from a transformer. LTC Component knowledge:

Comprehension of the makeup and operation of different models of load tap changers, familiarity of common LTC issues and respective solutions, familiarity of LTC operations - oil handling - leak rectification - equalization - etc., general understanding of LTC controls. Education & Experience

Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in servicing transformers in the field. Associates or Bachelor's degree in engineering or technical field is preferred and can be substituted for years of experience. Alternatively, a special combination of education, experience, and/or demonstrated accomplishments can be evaluated and accepted at the discretion of Delta Star Field Service management. Class A driver's license with air brake endorsement is preferred but a valid driver's license and DOT medical card is required. Must complete OSHA 30, OSHA 1910.269, and First Aid/CPR/AED training within the first 3 months of hire. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Must be computer literate and continually display professionalism. Must have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and the desire to learn new skills. Travel Requirements

Must be willing to travel approximately 80% of the time or based on customer/market demand. Willing to travel to work locations in any manner necessary to complete the project (drive/fly). Willing to work at assigned times for long/unexpected durations, shows willingness to work a full schedule, and is comfortable/safe working in less-than-desirable job site conditions (I.E. cold/hot/precipitation/live substations/unknown transformers, etc.).
