Bayfront Ear, Nose and Throat office is seeking a Senior Medical Assistant to join our team in a role that blends both clinical and clerical responsibilities. We’re looking for candidates with experience in EMR systems, patient care, and taking vitals, as well as a desire to assist clinical staff with a variety of in-office procedures. An occasional Saturday may be required from 7:30am to 12:00pm, though primarily this position will require no holidays, evenings or weekends, offering a great work-life balance! \n

Responsibilities: \n \n Guides workflow and/or assigns tasks to other clinical staff. \n Assist management staff with supervisory activities. \n Participates with creation and implementation of departmental goals, processes and procedures. \n Mentors, orients and provides ongoing training to current and new staff members. \n Serve as the department super user for Epic Care. \n Work directly with Manager to identify opportunities for improvement with regards to Clinical/Non-Clinical functions, Infection Control Procedures, and Patient Assessments. \n Guide routine meetings with staff to communicate procedural changes to improve service quality and patient safety. \n Must be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in all practice category specific tasks. \n Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations. \n Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. \n Complete forms/requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments. \n Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics. \n Prepare and managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately. \n Other front office responsibilities, as required. \n Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol. \n Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control. \n Clean according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records. Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms. \n Check schedules and organizing patient flow. \n Accompany patients to exam/procedure room. \n
Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc. \n Collect patient
information/history ; taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines. \n Relay instructions to patients/families. \n May provide more individualized patient/family education and supportive counseling as needed. \n Answering calls and providing pertinent information including patient education as directed. \n Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate. \n Perform phlebotomy, EKG's, and level one labs. \n Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure. \n Assist physicians with procedures. \n Document patient information into the medical record. \n Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). \n Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data. \n Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures. \n
\n High school diploma or equivalent is required. \n Successful completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program (LPN/RN/EMT) \n
OR
successful completion of certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA) \n
OR
at least 1 year of patient care experience required \n Must be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in three practice category specific tasks. \n Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: \n CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. \n Act 31 Mandated Reporter Training within 90 days of hire or transfer \n Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) \n Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal \n Act 33 with renewal \n Act 34 with renewal \n Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal \n \n UPMC is an Equal Opportunity
