The Center for Urban and Cultural Affairs (CURA) is seeking a Program/Project Specialist to join a small but fast-paced social justice center. This is a full-time, 12-month appointment. Bargaining unit consideration begins on August 11, 2025, and ends on August 18, 2025. This position supports HR, Payroll, Finance, and Administrative functions. The candidate should be an experienced team player responsible for managing graduate assistant, student, and staff hiring and payroll processes, providing financial support, and offering administrative assistance to various programs. The position reports to the Department Administrator and is located in the Hubert H. Humphrey building on West Bank. It is a hybrid role, with an expected schedule of 3 days in the office and 2 days remote, subject to change based on departmental needs. The typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, with no weekend work, overtime, or Sunday commitments. Job Responsibilities

HR and Payroll Responsibilities (45%) Manage hiring processes, including job descriptions, postings, recruiting system, offer letters, and documentation, ensuring compliance with regulations. Conduct payroll processes and audits, monitor for discrepancies, and maintain tracking systems. Serve as Unit Time and Absence Administrator. Provide guidance on HR policies and procedures. Manage personnel file storage and document transfer into Perceptive Content. Financial Support (20%) Support administrative and financial functions for various fellowship and award programs. Handle documentation for contracts, validate payments, and maintain application and award lists. Create agreements and manage payments and billing documentation. Maintain financial reports and systems. Administration/Coordination (30%) Create and monitor transaction requests. Coordinate onboarding and offboarding processes. Maintain hiring and staffing reports. Oversee workflow procedures for operational effectiveness and compliance. Coordinate fellowship programs, including communication and tracking. Verify incoming staff and student documentation. Support event planning for student development and orientation. Process final reports for digital conservancy. Professional and Technical Development (5%) Stay updated on relevant policies and regulations. Engage in training and professional development activities. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED and five years of HR/Payroll experience. Proficiency in office operations, including MS Office, Google Suites, and Zoom. Experience with payroll processing and auditing. Ability to handle confidential materials. Strong collaboration, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Event planning experience. Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of UMN HRMS/EFS, TDX, Perceptive Content, and Reporting Center. Experience with UMN HR and Financial policies. Experience with I-9 processing. Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and groups. Proficiency in spreadsheet reporting. Experience in an academic environment with various employee groups.
