Cloud Infrastructure Architect - AWS
The Cloud Infrastructure Architect is responsible for the design, support, and implementation of complex Cloud solutions with a focus on the Amazon AWS Cloud provider. Other duties include application architecture review, platform automation, management, and infrastructure as code development within an enterprise environment. An ideal candidate will have background experience related to Cloud architecture, engineering and automation against Amazon AWS. This role is responsible for the creation of automated solutions and support regarding SMBC Americas Cloud platforms, notably Amazon AWS, across all SMBC/Group Company entities within the Americas Division. This role requires experience in Amazon AWS architecture and engineering with a heavy focus implementation. Design and implement scalable, secure, and highly available AWS Cloud architectures for enterprise applications. Assist with the creation of reference architecture with a strong emphasis on the secure implementation and end user consumption. Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to integrate cloud solutions into existing infrastructure. Define cloud architecture best practices and ensure governance, compliance, and performance standards are met within a highly regulated environment. Migrate on-premise applications to AWS, including rehosting, replatforming, and refactoring. Design, creation, and deployment of Infrastructure as Code solutions for IaaS, SaaS, PaaS offerings within the SMBC Cloud environments with a heavy emphasis on Amazon AWS. Conduct architectural reviews, proof-of-concepts, and cost-optimization assessments. Ensure disaster recovery and business continuity planning are embedded in architecture designs. Provide technical leadership and guidance to cross-functional teams throughout the project lifecycle. Maintain and update cloud documentation, diagrams, and design specifications. Stay current with AWS services, industry trends, and emerging technologies. Ensure handover of new/updated systems/documentation to team providing 24x7x365 support. Highly proficient in Cloud services related to Amazon AWS. Notably, IaaS, PaaS and SaaS services. Proven expertise in AWS services like EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, and Route 53. Fundamental understanding of public vs private networking in the Cloud. Strong scripting experience, especially with the goal of automation in either Python or Powershell. Hands-on experience with IaC tools (e.g., Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, CDK). Experience with monitoring and log aggregation tools such as CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Splunk, ELK, etc. Basic knowledge of foundational IT tooling across a wealth of domains to facilitate understanding of automation creation. Strong technical ability for diagnosis, triage, troubleshooting and problem analysis with the ability to communicate results to business stakeholders, IT support teams to resolve issues both quickly and effectively. Experience integrating cloud solutions with enterprise identity providers (e.g., Active Directory, Okta, SSO). Strong documentation and presentation skills; ability to create architecture diagrams using tools like Lucidchart, Draw.io, or Visio. Sound knowledge on Git merging and branching strategies. Ability to execute proof of concepts and deploy complex solutions. Understanding of typical SDLC processes and workflow. Basic understanding of Atlassian Suite (Jira/Confluence) is a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to articulate requirements, concepts and ideas to business and technology partners.
