The Field Museum is seeking a Research Assistant in Zoology. They will assist Curator Rüdiger Bieler with tasks in the marine molluscan collections in the context of a grant-funded biodiversity project that explores the coral-reef-associated molluscan fauna of the Florida Keys. This is a term position ending 23.5 weeks from the start date.

Duties and Responsibilities Specimen handling and sorting (dry and fluid preserved) Identification of specimens using provided literature sources Organization and rehousing of specimen lots and literature files Work with in-house and online databases

Minimum education level: BSc.

Experience and skills desired: Experience with natural history collections Experience with specimen work under magnification (loupes, microscope) Organizational skill Detail attention Ability to work with ethanol-preserved material

Supervision Received: Receives general supervision by Curator of

Zoology/Invertebrates. Supervision Exercised: The position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Work Hours and Shift: 28 hours per week, 8:30am-4:30pm Hybrid Eligibility: Not Eligible Location: 1400 S DuSable Lake Shore Drive Chicago, IL 60605 Union Representation: This position is represented by Field Museum Workers’ United, AFSCME Council 31, AFL-CIO.

Pay Range: $21.00/Hourly
