JOB TITLE
Structural Engineer - Multi levels needed
JOB SUMMARY
Structural Engineer I: This position possesses the knowledge and skills to assist the Project Team in performing engineering calculations, generating drawings and other technical duties. Takes an active role in increasing their knowledge of their discipline and corporate procedures.
Structural Engineer II: In addition to the above, directs and reviews the work of one or two engineers/designers. Must be able to work with other disciplines. Works to increase their knowledge of structural engineering.
Structural Engineer III: In addition to the above, coordinates the work of Structural Engineers with other disciplines. Directs and reviews the work of a project team of engineers, discipline specialists and designers. Continues to develop breadth and depth of structural engineering knowledge. Takes an active role in increasing their knowledge of project management.
Structural Engineer IV: In addition to the above, coordinates the work of Structural Engineers with other disciplines. Directs, reviews, and approves the work of engineers, discipline specialists and designers. Uses their accumulated knowledge to develop solutions for unique situations. Takes an active role increasingly their knowledge of project management.
Structural Engineer V: In addition to the above, able to perform highly advanced (senior-level) structural work independently. Widely recognized throughout the industry as a subject matter expert.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Engineers are expected to observe professional ethics in their association with others including fellow employees, clients, and vendors.
• Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of the design and application.
• Conducts design calculations as directed by Project/Lead Engineers. Examples: Structural member sizing (concrete and steel), Retaining wall design, Foundation design (spread footings and piles), Wind/seismic load analysis, Frame analysis.
• Reviews drawings as assigned by the Project/Lead Engineers and marks or makes corrections as noted.
• Evaluates field installations and recommends design modifications to eliminate system malfunctions.
• Generates Structural plans, profiles, sections, and details using AutoCAD.
• Creates or modifies specifications as directed by Project/Lead Engineers.
• Contacts contractors or vendors to obtain pricing and availability.
• Investigates and utilizes applicable codes and standards such as OSHA, AISC, ACI, ASCE, IBC.
• Ensures understanding of project scope, specifications, and design criteria.
• Prepares reports, design criteria, estimates, designs, and drawings.
• Reviews rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data.
• Reviews project scope and notifies management of scope changes.
• Communicates ambiguities in design input for resolution.
• Verifies design output meets input and standard industry practices.
• Performs work related to design changes after document validation.
• Conforms to Jedson Engineering drafting and quality standards.
• Other duties as assigned.
Structural Engineer II: In addition to the above:
• Obtains and adheres to project budget parameters.
• Communicates budget over-runs and constraints.
• Suggests alternative methods to control costs.
Structural Engineer III - V: In addition to the above:
• Directs a project team in detailed calculations and design.
• Identifies and resolves project execution issues.
• Participates sufficiently to maintain full responsibility.
• Assists with formal marketing/sales presentations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Structural Engineer I - II: Ability to draw and present ideas graphically. Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit is desirable.
Structural Engineer III - V: Must possess specific knowledge of design requirements and analysis methodologies. Ability to interpret and communicate analysis results. Understands needs of other disciplines. Working knowledge of OSHA, AISC, ASCE, ACI, IBC. Thorough knowledge of structural steel, reinforced concrete, foundation design, and mechanical layouts/piping drawings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Structural Engineer I: BS degree. 1-2 years related experience. EIT or eligible within 6 months.
Structural Engineer II: BS degree. 3-7 years related experience. PE license or eligible within 12 months.
Structural Engineer III: BS degree. 7-10 years related experience. PE license and ability to obtain licenses by reciprocity. NCEES Record is a plus.
Structural Engineer IV - V: BS degree. 10-15+ years related experience. PE license and ability to obtain licenses by reciprocity. NCEES Record and SE are a plus.
