Highway & Roads Market Sector Director
Primary Responsibilities
Market Sector Directors (MSD) are part of HDR’s matrix management structure that drive our business. The Highway & Roads (H&R) sector is HDR’s largest, representing nearly $1B in annual revenue globally. It includes clients owning and operating highways, toll roads, local roads, and bridges, with services spanning bridge and highway design, traffic engineering, transportation planning, and tolling services.
The role requires understanding H&R clients, their funding, revenue streams, and governmental structures. Responsibilities include:
- Market leadership and business development (~70%)
- Staff development (20%)
- Support to Operations (10%)
The Director sets the vision for HDR’s growth in this sector, supports strategic initiatives, develops staff, and maintains client relationships. They work closely with regional leadership, support business development, and represent HDR in industry organizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic vision for the market sector.
- Serve as a client manager for key clients.
- Lead business development efforts and pursue new contracts.
- Support staff recruitment, development, and performance management.
- Assist in project delivery, monitor performance indicators, and promote quality assurance.
- Engage in industry associations and develop strategic partnerships.
Qualifications
Preferred:
- 20+ years in highway or bridge planning/engineering.
- Professional engineering license or equivalent.
- Leadership roles in industry associations.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
- At least 12 years of industry experience with leadership roles.
- Strong communication, client management, and business skills.
- Active participation in HDR’s employee-owned culture.
