The Parent Partner reports directly to the Youth and Family Programs Manager and conducts contact with parent(s)/guardian whose children have had contact with law enforcement and or who are currently being monitored by the Marin County Juvenile Probation and other Juvenile justice caseloads. The Parent Partner assists parent(s)/guardian in understanding the educational, social and basic economic preparedness toward self-sufficiency that will impact both the parent(s)/guardian and juvenile client. The Parent Partner assists parent(s)/guardian in understanding the probation conditions, requirements and responsibilities to support their child toward a successful completion.
Duties And Responsibilities
Include but are not limited to:
- Case Management
- Case management and advocacy to a caseload of 10-14 families. For each client provide:
- Weekly or Bi-weekly Check-In
- Text/phone contact as needed
- General Resource Support
- Support with referrals to appropriate community support service agencies or other relevant culturally appropriate support mechanisms
- Emotional Support
- Activities (walking, listening, bite to eat, coffee, transportation)
- School Support (Parent)
- Adult school ESL
- Other educational opportunities
- School Support (IEP, school meetings/conferences, paperwork)
- Home visits
- Transportation
- Court support
- School
- Resources
- Appointments
- Outings
- Probation
- Assist families in building and enhancing self-sufficiency and self-empowerment skills
- Collaborate with Lead Outreach Worker to develop and update goals and action plans
- Translation/interpretation support for family
- Establish and maintain communication with service providers/DPO, Wrap services, lawyers
- Job readiness, career exploration
- Maintain confidential client records
- Document all interactions with and transmit needed information from parent(s)/guardian to court, probation and any other identified and known agency partner in the community and visa-versa.
- Submit weekly and quarterly reports, as appropriate, to DPO, Mentor, and Programs Manager and participate in meetings as needed with Marin County Probation and with community stakeholders to determine the needs of parents during the court and probation conditions.
- Maintain relationship/rapport with Probation staff
- Make monthly probation visits
- Attend Staff Meetings
- Perform Community Outreach
- Submit weekly mileage and reimbursements
- General purchase of essential items
- Bilingual English/Spanish fluency (verbal and written) required.
- Bachelor’s degree in the behavioral sciences such as Psychology, Social work, Sociology, Counseling, or a related field preferred and a minimum 1-3 years of experience providing counseling, mentorship, and or social services work. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Awareness and/or involvement with community-based organizations in Marin County
- Knowledge and understanding of the Juvenile Justice system
- Ability to engage with diverse populations in a respectful and culturally responsive manner with an emphasis on racially, ethnically, and linguistically diverse marginalized youth
- Experience working with youth, partner agencies, and supervising interns
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects, priorities, and programs to completion in a constantly changing environment.
- A communication style that fosters team relationships and an interpersonal style that is service oriented and supportive of other departments.
- Ability to use personal vehicle for local travel, mileage reimbursed at the standard federal rate. Must be insurable under MCM’s auto policy.
- This is a regular, non-exempt, part-time (20-24 hours/week) position
- Local travel is required for outreach
- Hybrid with 2-3 days at the office in San Rafael, CA
- Ability to sit for long periods of time and use a computer.
- Occasionally lift up to 15 lbs.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
