Job Summary

The Insurance & Multi-Asset Portfolio Manager is a product-agnostic investment, strategy, and structuring professional focusing on key insurance and multi-asset clients. The role involves working within the broader Insurance and Multi-Asset Portfolio Management team, overseeing over $25bn of multi-asset, fixed income investments for institutional clients. The portfolio manager will collaborate with clients, Barings' Investment Teams, and other internal teams to design, implement, and manage investment and risk strategies, leveraging their expertise to serve insurance and multi-asset clients effectively.

Primary Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage investment strategy, portfolio construction, and asset allocation for key insurance and multi-asset clients, considering liability, risk, capital, accounting, and liquidity factors.
  • Develop and execute clients' asset strategies in collaboration with senior management.
  • Gain a thorough understanding of Barings' investment platform, technology, and capabilities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, asset originators, and relevant partners.
  • Recommend tactical portfolio adjustments based on investment team input and relative value analysis.
  • Monitor portfolio aspects including risk, accounting, and compliance.
  • Prepare and present investment risk and performance reports to senior management, boards, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Stay informed on regulatory, accounting, and capital frameworks affecting investment and risk management decisions for insurance and institutional clients.

Qualifications

  • At least 8+ years of relevant experience in an insurer, asset manager, investment bank, or consultancy.
  • Proven track record as a portfolio manager with insurance or similar institutional clients.
  • Experience designing and implementing investment and risk strategies for (re)insurers.
  • Proficiency in modern financial mathematics (bond math, option pricing, hedging, stochastic processes, Monte Carlo simulations, interest-rate modeling).
  • Experience with portfolio construction analytics and derivatives in an insurance context.
  • Knowledge of global regulatory capital and accounting regimes.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of public and private asset classes.
  • Examples of successful cross-functional collaboration to deliver comprehensive client solutions.
  • Strong executive communication skills.

Base salary range: approximately $190,000 - $210,000, plus incentives.
