TCB’s Legal Department, located in Boston, manages corporate and transactional legal work and consists of 5 attorneys and 2 paralegals. The team handles complex real estate development transactions, oversees outside counsel on some projects, maintains over 600 affiliated entities, and provides corporate legal services, including legislative and policy counsel.

As a member of the Legal Department, the Assistant or Associate General Counsel will support various functions, including transactional work, training, contract review, negotiation, and other legal services. This full-time position is based at our Boston office at 185 Dartmouth Street, with the possibility of remote work up to 3 days per week.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Transactional Practice: Handling real estate and housing development transactions, including financial structuring, conveyancing, and closing financings involving multiple funding sources. Also working on acquisitions, refinancings, and dispositions of affordable, mixed-income, and commercial properties.
  • Compliance and Management: Advising on regulatory and legal compliance, property management, and resident services. Developing compliance policies, forms, systems, and tools to manage risks effectively.
  • Legal Entity Formation and Maintenance: Providing advice on corporate structure, capital and lending relationships, 501(c)(3) status, and maintaining over 600 subsidiaries and affiliates across states.
  • Legislative and Policy Matters: Participating in legislative and policy initiatives aligned with TCB’s mission.
  • Staff Training: Assisting in training staff across departments such as real estate development, asset management, and property management.

Qualifications:

  • Strong academic background;
  • 2-6 years’ experience in corporate and/or real estate transactional law, with the ability to manage complex projects in a team environment;
  • Experience with affordable housing finance, LIHTC, zoning, construction contracts, nonprofit law, fair housing, and related fields;
  • Admission to the MA state bar;
  • Passion for affordable housing and community development work.

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Sound legal and business judgment;
  • Creative and innovative thinking.

The level of experience will determine the title and salary, ranging from $115K to $160K annually.
