Purpose: The Surgeon serves as a physician who operates to repair injuries, correct deformities, prevent diseases, and generally improve the health of patients with various vascular conditions. Examine patients to determine if surgery is necessary, evaluate the risks involved, and select the appropriate surgical procedure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze patient's medical history, medication allergies, physical condition, and examination results to verify operation's necessity and to determine best procedure.
- Operate on patients to correct deformities, repair injuries, prevent and treat diseases, or improve or restore patients' functions.
- Follow established surgical techniques during the operation.
- Prescribe preoperative and postoperative treatments and procedures, such as sedatives, diets, antibiotics, and preparation and treatment of the patient's operative area.
- Examine patient to obtain information on medical condition and surgical risk.
- Diagnose bodily disorders and orthopedic conditions and provide treatments, such as medicines and surgeries, in clinics, hospital wards, and operating rooms.
- Direct and coordinate activities of nurses, assistants, specialists, residents, and other medical staff.
- Provide consultation and surgical assistance to other physicians and surgeons.
- Refer patient to medical specialist or other practitioners when necessary.
- Examine instruments, equipment, and operating room to ensure sterility.
Qualification Requirements:
- Able to perform health care tasks in general surgery and related areas, efficiently and effectively consistent with patient's health and welfare.
- Able to obtain and sustain clinical hospital privileges.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Ability to travel distances within the surrounding community.
- Good diagnostic capabilities.
- Maintain privileges at hospitals/institutions as required.
Education And Experience:
- Graduate of an approved program or its equivalent.
- Meets the standards set by the Board of Medicine.
- Valid license to practice medicine in Florida. Must hold a current license and be in good standing.
- Must meet all qualifications and follow all regulations listed in Chapter 458 F. S. Medical Practice.
Confidential and Sensitive Information: Must properly control the release of proprietary and confidential information.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one and group situations with patients, physicians, employees and other customers of the organization.
