Position Summary:
Under supervision of Transfer Station Supervisor and/or Assistant Supervisor, operates tractor-trailer from Transfer Station to Landfill and back safely. Pushes trash on Transfer Station floor into packing unit with front-end loader and cleans lower packing units with backhoe as needed. Cleans and performs maintenance checks on equipment and repairs minor problems on trucks daily. Assists in all maintenance and cleanup of Transfer Station and equipment as needed.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates transfer truck and trailers and performs daily check on vehicles.
- Fuels and repairs equipment when minor problems are observed during daily pretrip inspections.
- Pushes trash into push pit with front end loader when supervisor or operator needs assistance.
- Cleans downstairs at the lower packing units with the backhoe when indicated by supervisor or operator.
- Helps perform maintenance on Transfer Station equipment, when necessary, also assists in all cleanups when needed.
- Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
- Keep all Transfer Station equipment clean inside and out.
- Help spot trucks on Transfer Station floor when necessary.
Machines, Tool, Equipment and Work Aids Used:
Semi tractor and trailer, backhoe, front end loader, mechanical tools, power washer and hand tools.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Opening large doors on trailers in high winds, driving, working in all ranges of weather. Walking in mud, snow, heavy dust, and garbage with sharp or hazardous materials. Climbing steep steps, slippery at times. Requires occasional lifting materials of up to 75 pounds and could involve heavier lifting of over 100 pounds with laborers' assistance, and ability to pull with a force of at least 94 pounds.
Education Training, Experience, and Licenses/Registrations Required:
Training and/or experience equivalent to eighth grade education. Two years experience and/or completion of professional truck driving school in operation of tractor trailer is preferred. Knowledge of mechanical operation of diesel equipment. Ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on same equipment. Must be able to operate equipment safely and avoid hazards. Must have the ability to effectively communicate with co-workers. Experience in the operation of a front end loader is preferred. Must have a valid Texas Driver's License - Class A-CDL. Regular and punctual attendance is required of this job.
