Position Summary:

Position Summary:
The Accounting Specialist supports the financial operations of a heavy civil construction company by managing a range of core accounting tasks, including job cost tracking, union benefit compliance, bank reconciliations, fixed asset tracking, and general ledger maintenance. The role is essential in ensuring accurate financial records and compliance with labor agreements and internal policies. This position requires strong accounting skills, attention to detail, and experience in a construction or project-based environment.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Banking & General Ledger
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations for all company bank accounts.
  • Prepare and post basic journal entries, including accruals, reclasses, and corrections.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and maintain accurate supporting documentation.
Union Benefit Compliance
  • Prepare and submit union benefit reports in accordance with multiple collective bargaining agreements.
  • Process timely and accurate union remittance payments.
  • Track and update fringe benefit rates and ensure proper application across payroll records.
Cash & Receipts
  • Record and reconcile cash receipts and customer payments.
  • Apply payments to appropriate accounts and projects in the accounting system.
  • Ensure timely deposit recording and investigate discrepancies in payment allocations.
Job Cost & Project Accounting
  • Maintain accurate job cost records and collaborate with project managers for expense coding and project tracking.
  • Monitor labor and overhead allocations for accuracy.
Asset Management
  • Maintain the fixed asset register, tracking asset acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation.
  • Support year-end asset reporting and reconciliation
  • Reporting
  • Prepare recurring and ad-hoc financial and operational reports, including:
  • Job status and historical experience reports
  • Backlog reporting
  • Monthly financial statement support schedules
  • Asset and depreciation reports
  • Support the Accounting Manager with data required for internal reviews, audits, and forecasting.
Audit & Compliance
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing requested documentation and responding to inquiries.
  • Maintain organized financial records in accordance with retention policies.
  • Help prepare payroll & other tax returns
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
  • Associate's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field or work towards a degree will be considered.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction or unionized labor sector.
  • Experience with general ledger functions, bank reconciliation, and union benefit reporting.
  • Experience using construction accounting software such as Viewpoint Vista, Sage 300 CRE, or similar platforms.
Skills:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Understanding GAAP, labor compliance, and job cost accounting.
  • Ability to interpret union contracts and apply reporting rules accurately.
  • Clear communicator with the ability to work cross-functionally.

Schedule And Physical Setting:
  • Full-time, in-office position

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000 - $70,000.00 Annually based on experience
