Job Summary:
A growing advisory and tax firm is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead a team responsible for preparing and reviewing client tax returns. This role will serve as a key liaison between staff and firm leadership, while maintaining strong client relationships. The ideal candidate will oversee tax planning initiatives, ensure accuracy in compliance, and provide leadership and mentorship across the tax department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and sign tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts, including multi-state filings.
- Respond to notices from federal and state tax authorities on behalf of clients.
- Support tax team with technical guidance and software training.
- Assist in document gathering for federal and state audits.
- Ensure timely filing of all tax returns, extensions, and tax-related payments.
- Research and analyze complex tax issues and client transactions.
- Mentor and develop tax staff to support both professional growth and firm goals.
- Participate in client meetings alongside firm leadership to maintain strong relationships.
- Work extended hours during peak periods.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- Deep knowledge of federal and state tax laws affecting individuals, corporations, partnerships, estates, and trusts.
- Familiarity with tax return workflow processes and adaptability to new systems.
- Strong research, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, time management, and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in tax software (preferably CCH Axcess or ProSystem) and Microsoft Office tools.
- Understanding of GAAP.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; team-oriented mindset.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or a related field (minimum 3.0 GPA).
- CPA certification preferred.
- 7+ years of relevant tax experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Experience with real estate and partnership taxation highly desirable.
- Background in public accounting or family office preferred.
